View Full Version : Stupid Questions about Dumb TV Shows

I confess to watching NCIS on Netflix (also The Closer & Breaking Bad.)
At the end of the second season one of the more appealing characters, NCIS agent Kate, is killed by this Scary Muslim/ Mossad Double Agent Supreme Bad Guy, named Ari.
Ari shoots Kate in the forehead. But his big beef is with Jethro (Mark Harmon), who shot Ari in the shoulder to avenge Ari shooting one of Jethro's staff in the shoulder.
Also, Ari sort of had a crush on Kate.
(I said it was dumb.)
What I can't understand is - if Ari wants to piss off Jethro, and likes Kate, why doesn't Ari just shoot Jethro in the groin ? That would piss him off. Or shoot him in the back, put him in a wheelchair. THAT would piss Jethro off.
Perhaps there is some fine detail of the plot that will be revealed in the 3rd season. Maybe the actress that plays Kate just wanted to become a Mom and they couldn't have a pregnant Kate.
Like I said, it's a stupid question about a dumb TV show. ;) But I've had the entire weekend to mourn Kate's fictional death, and I'll be watching the 1st shows of the third season, "Kill Ari", and "Kill Ari 2", tonight, so heck, just thought I would ask.
Any other NCIS watchers among us ?
I admit, it's a weakness, like smoking or something.

I watched the first 3 or 4 seasons and then it became a real soap opera.
You are correct in your guess, the actress wanted a kid and left the show.
One thing I noticed when I watched it is that Israelis were just as likely to be bad guys as anyone else, and Mossad can't be trusted. Definitely not the norm.

There's only so much they can do.
Do Agent McGee & Abby ever "get together"/ become a romantic couple ?
The same woman who recommended NCIS recommended "Sons of Anarchy".
I might check that out.

i can relate. i looooove breaking bad, dexter, and it's always sunny in philly. i was very into the walking dead but we killed the satellite. only local channels when we're lucky. we get about 8 channels on a good day....
i watched ncis when it first started but i think i gave up on it about the 2nd season. i was very addicted to the original csi (las vegas) up until they got rid of grissom. he was the ONLY reason i watched that show. imo, it when waaaay down hill after that....

i think i watched it a few times. pretty good... i try to not get too into shows anymore. especially ones that require you to watch in order. i like the big bang theory right now because it's not too hard to follow and it's on a local channel. i love to catch seinfeld episodes when i can. love that one too. please don't hate me :D

I have a hunch that the writers wanted you to think that Ari respected Jethro AKA Gibbs too much as an adversary to handicap him.
Horseshoe3 and I have the first 6 seasons on DVD. The entire season 6 seems like a soap opera until the viewer is finally given the bigger picture at the very end of that season. We haven't purchased any more seasons because he believes it is still a soap opera, but I tend to disagree, having seen glimpses of current episodes while at his parents' house. I have a hunch seasons 7 on have more of that NCIS feel that got us hooked in the first place. It is nice to see that DeNozzo has grown more mature in the latest seasons.

Television programming is without a doubt to me the manifestation of the protocols. You turn on the tv or watch a movie and it's the protocols in action.
Norman Lear made all these popular tv shows that, in many ways, socially engineered the masses, 'normalizing' what were traditionally viewed as taboo subjects. One of Lear's shows, All in the Family, was the first to touch on many controversial subjects like homosexuality, abortion, women's liberation, breast cancer, etc. That's just one show. He has tons of shows under his belt, all introducing their own respective controversy. Being that Lear is of the tribe, is it so unreasonable to believe that these scripts were manipulated with intent? Especially when you fast forward to today and there is fat fucking seth rogan wearing his SUPER JEW shirt and banging the hot chicks in every movie or that other fat jew with the curly hair who magically gets the cute girls in the movie even though he's supposed to be babysitting.
And speaking of Seth Rogan. Pay attention to ANYTHING he's in. You'll see these same threads. I'm watching that Monsters vs Aliens movie and you can see the clues everywhere.

OK, i got a question about guns in the episode called "Patch-Over" in Sons of Anarchy.
there is a scene where there is a shoot-out between 2 gangs, the Mayans (obviously Hispanic) and Sons of Anarchy - which has recently acquired 2/3 of the members of "Tribe" in a (mostly) friendly merger.
Jax, knowing there will be a confrontation, takes the initiative and kicks over the Mayans bikes. well, he kicks over one bike, then they fall like Domino's.
then he heads back to the Tribe's hang-out, basically a bar/ brothel in Nevada.
the Mayans pull up on their bikes, and start shooting at the Tribe's club-house, using mostly handguns.
well, SoA specialty is guns, so they have the upper hand. they set up a strategic/ tactical move where 3 groups of SoA members start firing at the Mayans from 3 different directions, who are all standing next to their bikes in front of the club-house.
the SoA members have assault rifles (hope that's the right term) and handguns with high-capacity clips. some of them are holding one handgun in each hand. the Mayans are caught in a blizzard of fvcking lead.
but not one Mayan dies. you see a few SoA members get wounded. but the Mayans just high-tail it out of there, just get back on their bikes and ride away. WTF ?!
to me it seems VERY un-realistic. besides the fact that it is a TV show and they really are shooting blanks, how come there were no dead Mayans ?
a few episodes later, they dig up some bodies of Mayans that were killed by the SoA. so it's not like SoA has a problem killing Mayans.
just makes me wonder - what reason, in terms of plot, was there for nobody dying in that massive shoot-out ? why do they have this massive elaborate plot, then have nobody die ?
what on Earth were the show writers thinking ? (besides winning a Grammy and selling ads.)
it's a good show, but, i like REALISM in TV shows & movies. since i watch the show on Netflix, it's basically like a movie.

I remember that scene but don't remember or didn't notice that none of the mayans were killed. ... I watched it like a movie too, better that way I think. Plus no commercials. I see what your saying but I don't see much realism in shows. Watched a movie this morning where a woman running from the CIA jumps in a cab, my first thought was "how is she gonna pay for that?" No wonder I stopped watching so much tv.

in Sons of Anarchy - Clay killed Opie's Dad ?!
actually, i also heard that -
spoiler
alert
Clay killed Jax' dad.
now that part, i could have guessed.
after that one show where they dig up the bodies and it's revealed that Clay killed the young guy's dad, Clay & Jemma are talking, and they refer to 'other secrets'. first thing i thought of - Clay killed Jax' dad.
of course, it's also hinted at by Clay. when he's telling Jax about killing the other guy's Dad, he says, "it was the '90's. it was a crazy time. it was about the time your Dad died."
so, what does a serious motorcycle gang do when they find out that the President killed the fathers of the Club Vice President and one of his best friends ?

Clay ends up killing another members father (you can probably guess which one) and when the son tries to kill him Jax saves Clay but then finds out about his own father and if I remember correctly his girl gives him drugs to kill him but I don't remember the details of the very end anymore, meaning I can't remember if Jax uses that or another method. Have you seen the season finale of the one where Jax is working with the DEA bitch?

i'm still on Season 1. Just finished Disc 2, about to receive Disk 3.
i went to the $ store today to buy some laundry soap (and boy, did i need laundry soap ! ;) ), and noticed that one of the women employees had a bunch of tattoos. i asked her if you likes Sons of Anarchy. she said she loves it. we spent about 10 minutes talking about it while she was getting dirty looks from her co-workers. she spilled the beans (about the show) but that's OK.
what i wonder is how Jemma takes the news. in the photo of her wedding to Jax' father, Clay is staring at Jemma, like he WANTS HER. i figure that might have been one clue.
but i would think that Jemma waited a while after the death of Jax' father before jumping in the sack with Clay, and would not take kindly to the news about Clay killing her first husband.
plot-wise, it seems to make sense for Jemma to know that Clay murdered Opie's father and the father of the young guy (not even a Prospect yet) that hangs around their shop, the one whose skeleton was dug up with the 2 Mayans. of course when it begins to look like Clay murdered her former husband - that should cause some good fireworks.

She knows. The show eludes that she helped and so did the cop they are friends with(can't remember his name). The details may come out later but jemma hides that part of the letters that jax's girlfriend gets. That's like season three of four, can't remember where we are at. I think it is season three that has an awesome season finale. I have never been a season show watcher until this show but it was a great twist at the end.

no.
the only reason i can think of why Jax would be working with DEA is to bring down the Mayans.
