Josephus wrote circa 21 AD:

These shekel coins, supposedly symbols of Jewish soveriegn pride, like the great wailing wall that has been huckstered as part of the the original [third] temple, were actually made by Roman hands. The Romans made things to last, as evidenced by countless sites scattered throughout the old empire. The Jews made nothing to last, except perhaps the crucifixion of a certain carpenter from Galilee.
