NEW YORK (AP) — Coca-Cola Co. and PepsiCo (http://www.businessinsider.com/blackboard/pepsico) Inc. are changing the way they make the caramel coloring used in their sodas as a result of a California law that mandates drinks containing a certain level of carcinogens bear a cancer warning label. The companies said the changes will be expanded nationally to streamline their manufacturing processes. They are already in effect to comply with the California law.
Coca Cola (http://www.businessinsider.com/blackboard/coca-cola) and Pepsi say their drinks have always been safe and that their sodas will not taste any different.
A Food and Drug Administration spokesman noted that a consumer would have to drink more than 1,000 cans of soda a day to reach the doses administered that have shown links to cancer in rodents.

How many 12oz cans of coke do you think the average American drinks in their lifetime?

Better yet, how many 64oz goblets of coke do you think the average American drinks in their lifetime?

Worry about cancer? Nah.....I think I'll have a coke!

I stopped drinking corporate soda a long time ago when I switched to natural soda. And a couple months ago, i stopped drinking soda all together. Sugar = POISON to your immune system, not to mention aspartame or HFCS.

The California law that requires that labeling is a horrible law. It was meant to protect people from industrial pollution but instead has turned into more regulation that inhibits businesses.

Robert H. Lustig, MD, UCSF Professor of Pediatrics in the Division of Endocrinology, explores the damage caused by sugary foods. He argues that fructose (too much) and fiber (not enough) appear to be cornerstones of the obesity epidemic through their effects on insulin. Isn't it interesting how this is the case for all kinds of regulations? The big players basically get a free pass while the small businesses get tangled up in red tape.
