Some students offended by Louis Farrakhan's UC Berkeley address

BERKELEY, Calif. —

Nation of Islam minister Louis Farrakhan delivered a speech to hundreds at the University of California Berkeley Saturday and some students took issue with parts of his message.

Minister Louis Farrakhan opened the Afrikan Black Coalition Conference at UC Berkeley Saturday, bringing together black students from colleges across the state.

The 78-year-old minister urged the 600 or so students to depend on themselves for jobs and learn more about black history. He also pushed a controversial book that alleges Jews dominated the slave trade.

"(He said) that Jews control the government and that you need to be their friends in order to be successful, that Jews control the media. To me, that was just so hateful and horrible," said Noah Ickowitz, a UC Berkelely ASUC Senator.

"This is not hate, this is actual facts," Farrakhan said.

Outside Wheeler Hall, a few students passed out petitions expressing their discontent with minister Farrakhan's presence on campus.
"I believe the (Black Student Union) had every right to bring Farrakhan, but we are hurt by Farrakhan's words," Ickowitz said to students outside the auditorium.

The minister condemned the opposition and even discouraged dialogue between Jews and blacks.

"I personally don't care if I ever get along if I've got to hide the truth to win a friend," Farrakhan said to crowd.

UC President Mark Yudof decried Farrakhan as "provocative" and "divisive" following his speech at UC Berkeley.
"Louis Farrakhan is a provocative, divisive figure with a long history of racist, anti-Semitic and homophobic speech," Yudof said. "It was distressing in the extreme that a student organization invited him to speak on the UC Berkeley campus."

"But, as I have said before, we cannot, as a society or as a university community, be provoked by hurtful speech to retreat from the cherished value of free speech," Yudof said.
But members of UC Berkeley's Black Student Union said the overall message was inspiring.

"What I got out of it was how we as black students can take our education and utilize it to build the black community back up," said Stephan Montouth. "We're looking at the minister's statements in terms of how to empower the black community not all of the other controversial things that he may have said in the past."

I never really realized how fucked we are until I started reading the protocols of zion about a month ago. I got about a 1/3 the way through and put it down...

Well it can be disheartening when you pour over that document and see how much of it is instituted on a regular basis.

I started reading it on the toilet years ago, a printout, it is not that long.

You should finish it and make some notes.

It is not that easy to read at times, but it is must reading, you can quote the thing for almost anything major happening, fits history going back to before it's writing, not just financial, the Founding Fathers had the banksters number long ago, how is that possible ? They knew what was going on in Europe. Through inflation and deflation, massive shifts, transfer of wealth to top, many are in on it, like the protocols say, we see it playing out again.

On the OP, I am surprised they let Farrakhan on campus, what
were they expecting , a bash whitey speech, at least Farrakhan is
good for something. A student is hurt because he hears that Jews
own and dominate the media. Without the media they would not
be able to accomplish anything.

“People have to realize that the Jews in the U.S. control
the entire information and propaganda machine, the large
newspapers, the motion pictures, radio and television, and the big
companies. And there is a force that we have to take into
consideration.”

NIXON

That was then, they are more blatant and far more dominant now.

Is that really a Nixon quote? That would explain watergate, if it is.

This quote made me lol.

"It was distressing in the extreme that a student organization invited him to speak on the UC Berkeley campus."

I suppose it would be distressing to have a man come onto the grounds of the major inculcation centers in the area, and speak the truth. It would go against all their years of programming!

So I dug a little, regarding this Yudof character, and it is as I expected, as usual:

When a hateful speaker comes, he or she has the First Amendment right to speak and speak without being disrupted. If they make an inflammatory statement that leads directly to someone being assaulted then they can be held liable. Other than that, there isn't much we can do. Yet, others have the right to be present and peacefully protest. They can hold signs. They can pass out leaflets. Most importantly, they can participate in the question and answer session. If time does not allow, they can ask for the speaker to stick around for some questions and dialogue. If they desire, their question can be a statement though a long diatribe of a speech will be cut off by the moderator.

This is what I would encourage the opponents of Farrakhan to do.

And there is no person at UC Berkeley more appropriate to do that than UC President Mark Yudof, who just yesterday, issued a UC-wide statement condemning racist and anti-Semitic expressions on his campuses. Yudof, who is himself Jewish and whose office is in the Bay area, should be at that event. He should monitor what Farrakhan says and after that, he should stand up and tell Farrakhan in no uncertain terms what he thinks of him. He should also tell the Black Student Union that they should be ashamed of themselves for inviting such an odious character to speak and that they have lost any credibility should they ever want to complain about racism.

That piece is in regards to the OP, posted by another crybaby, Gary Fouse. Looking at Gary, funnily enough he has a blog called "Patriots Corner". So I quickly did a google search and came up with this little gem:

On Sunday evening January 8, UC Irvine law school dean Erwin Chemerinsky spoke at Chapman University sponsored by the Jewish Community Forum. Some friends offered me a couple of tickets to attend, but my Steelers were playing and I had my priorities. (No wise-cracks, please). During his appearance, Chemerinsky attacked the Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) for using the years-old controversy involving Jewish and Muslim students at UCI to advance their own agenda.

During the Q and A, Jesse Rosenblum (a friend and colleague of mine) introduced himself as the Orange County head of ZOA. He asked Chermerinsky why he had not signed a letter issued by some 70 Jewish faculty in May 2010 complaining about activities on campus that foment hatred against Jews and Israelis. (I also signed the letter.)

Fouse may or may not be a BLT, but he certainly has the kionist movement set as his priority. (Sayanim)

Sorry to get off topic Awoke.

It just fits in everywhere including your OP.

I should finish reading it.

The Protocols are exactly on topic. The Protocols are behind pretty much every single issue we discuss here in this forum.
