I have never been a fan of PETA, even though I am a HUGE animal lover (Huge difference between animal welfare and animal rights). Several of you here know that my passion is dogs. That is how I started to wake up. I got my first dog and researched dog food which made me realize how corrupt and disgusting that is and then I started to learn about PETA and the Humane Society of the US... Anyway, that is how my awakening began. Just wanted to share something I recently came across.

The show "Penn and Teller Bullshit" did a GREAT expose' on PETA, their hipocricy, and outright disregard for ACTUAL animal well-being. They even exposed the fact that PITA headquarters has a dead-animal walkin FREEZER full of pet corpses! :o

Find it if it's available... definitely worth a viewing!

All too often, one stated agenda is a front for a hidden one.

I suspect Peta is one arm of gun control. Peta = anti hunting, anti-hunting = anti-gun.

They also fit nicely into the Anti-Terror gov enabling act, playing their part in the problem-reaction-solution paradigm.

Off topic sorta, but since you mentioned it in the OP. What food did you settle on to feed your dog/s?

We have a 65lb male boxer and I was feeding him Orijen (http://www.orijen.ca/orijen/about/) but he started scratching uncontrollably and having itchy spots and losing hair. The vet suggested trying a new food and the issues cleared up right away. (Tried Regional Red formula and the 6-Fish and had issues with both)...We have been using "Back to Basics Pork formula" http://www.dogfoodadvisor.com/dog-food-reviews/back-to-basics-dog-food-dry/ and the issues seem to have cleared up quite a bit. I still feel that he is scratching more then a "normal" dog would...but perhaps its normal for him.

That back to basics looks good! Orijen is a high quality dog food but every dog is different. My boy gets this for breakfast: http://www.naturesvariety.com/InstinctRaw/dog/orgchicken and this for dinner: http://www.thehonestkitchen.com/products/force/

He has bad allergies as well He is allergic to fish and it is difficult to find quality dog food that doesn't have fish in it. He is obviously allergic to other stuff but I have had a hard time trying to figure out what. I have tried to change him to something that is not chicken based but he seems to have stomach issues with other meats. Not sure I will stay with this but I know it is good quality so that is where I'm at now.

A friend of mine met a dog at a yard sale one time, and it was bouncing around like a puppy, all hyper. The coat was clean and shiney, healthy, the dog was a perfect Golden Lab that looked and acted about 3 years old.
But it was 18 years old.

All they ever fed it, ever, was home made vegetable stew.

there's always some extreme to every cause. peta is that for animal welfare. i don't know alot about them but i always thought that their general idea was ok but they were just extreme about what they do. i just never gave them much thought unless it directly affected me. i've always known that the humane society was a load of crap. when i feel compelled to donate to a shelter, i keep it local. those are the guys you should help....

Also what Big Country is describing sounds like something dogs get called "Hot spots". My dog got it from a diet change as well. I will have to ask my wife what we did to get it to stop. I can't recall what it was, but something we did worked.

If the itchy spots are losing hair, and weeping with moisture, and red/raw, chances are it's hot spots.

We tried HonestKitchen and I really liked it. The dog made a mess with it though, it would be all over the floor and baseboards becuase he's a messy eater. He usually knocks dry food out of the bowl, but then goes around and cleans it up afterwards...he would never get all of the honestkitchen though so we'd have little crusty food boogers all over the floor and baseboards.
I do like that food though!

I'll have to check up on hot spots and yeast infections.

Yes, it is messy. The wall behind his bowl is always dirty....

No, sorry.... Here is a review of it. http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/dog_food_reviews/showproduct.php?product=1766&cat=all I learned that pretty much any dog food that I had heard of before my research or shows comercials are crap foods. I have seen some decent foods starting to adverstise but very few and only on animal planet.

I agree, any donations to HSUS do not go to the local humane societies from what I understand. Much better to keep it local and I even prefer to donate food, blankets, etc instead of money so I know it isn't being spent on something else.
