Helen has fallen in love with this face. She's seen it twice in the last couple weeks.
She was wanting a Bichon...now this one has won her heart. Help me out, GS'ers? I'm thinking its a mini pom. But it's face and feet seem to me to be thicker. Do they shed bad? What else does she need to know?

I think it's a Chow or Chow Chow as they're sometimes called.

I think that is a puppy.
They don't look like that when they grow up.
Check into health problems for that breed, surprise genetic defects can be very expensive.
There is really no oversite of pet breeders so some breeders will produce pets that are ascetically pleasing but have serious health problems.

It might be worthwhile to check out stuffed animal toys...

It could be a Pom with a fab and fluffy new hairdo. Got me though, really.

I have no idea, but if it is a chow puppy, the link below can help you. Chows are good with children but do shed alot. The website can tell you all about other breeds as well.

Also, remember that the smaller the breed, the yappier they get!

So, what kind of dent in my wallet should I be braced for, based on your neighbor's "asking price?"
And does this little dude/ette require much time at the groomer's to meet Helen's "cute" standards?

i have no first hand experience with them. i think the neighbor's ex sells them for around $200. the one my neighbor has is a yappy little dog. he has long poofy hair. he says he brushes him about every other day. i think he sheds pretty bad too.
get you a shelter dog. my mom adopted one that is half pom half yorky (we call her a porky). she's a really cool little dog :)
here's muddy mudskipper herself :D

Is this a yap yap dog? Is it going to yap everytime someone comes to the door? In SHTF and zombies are at large is this animal going to be quiet or is it going to make a noise? If you need to move quickly will you have to bring it with you? If you need to abandon it will it be able to survive on it's own? If you are attacked will it be able to come to your defence in any realistic way? My recommendation. Get a lab. Friendly, good with kids, will protect the pack to the death. Don't make much noise. They are just a bit bigger though.

Is it really considered a dog if it weighs less then some cats?

This is why I hesitate in getting a little lap dog, much as I'd like to. I already have a dog like Glass recommends (http://gold-silver.us/forum/showthread.php?59804-What-breed-of-Dog-is-this-Wife-wants-t-know.&p=526479&viewfull=1#post526479), but I still want a tiny cute pooch too! I guess I will have to settle with just having a lap cat.

We used to call these drop kickers....
He is a cute little guy though. If you do get one, name him fuzzy wuzzy. I also like the stuffed animal toy idea too...less chance someone like the general will send him into orbit. :)

It's a groomed Pomeranian.... I raise Brit's... but I guess you can say I'm a closet little dog fan too.

Oh, dear. Now you've really gone and done it, Santa.
Dear Helen didn't know about "Boo" being a famous cutie.
I can already see how this is going to end. I might as well "roll over" here.
PS...I didn't look that cute, nor was I that calm when I was a 5 year old laddy....
