Theory of Everything

Tonight’s topic is a tough one. The bickering regarding precisely how the monetary system will collapse framed around Inflation and Deflation is getting us precisely NOWHERE. The reason for this I think is because it is mostly ex-post facto analysis of the money supply and asset values, and this bogs you down in conflicting numbers, many of which are not even certain to be valid given how the data is manipulated these days. So what I am going to try to do in this post is look at precisely how fiat money accrues value and how that attaches to physical resources, energy and labor to create an economic system. It’s a Theory of Everything kind of post, and I have no idea how its going to come out here as I begin. My objective in developing a TOE here is to try to get a better idea of how the folks in current control over the monetary system will behave as the system disintegrates...

He's describing a total system breakdown where basic survival needs trump gold, silver and everything paper. I think his premise is self-evident - no one here would argue the point. BTW, I just got my order of free dried food in: 8 months supply. I will add this to my stash of canned food which is quite substantial, several months worth. I'll be adding another couple of months supply this weekend. I have been politely telling my gun-toting neighbors who are armed to the teeth: "Being able to defend yourself ain't gonna do you a lot of good if you're starving, food from hunting notwithstanding."

As I am surrounded by ex-Marines and hardcore hunters, my private goal is to store sufficient food, water and supplies to trade said items for protection and general good will.

In progress. And wifey is a nurse.

My neighbors are all sharpshooters. Hopefully, their targets will the ones in need of medical services, not us. LOL

As the Sovereigns become increasingly unable to Tax enough money to pay their bonds, they will fail and I do not see it as likely that after anything bigger than about Portugal you will see the CBs bailing out Sovereigns. To do so, they would have to create valueless money (to them) , and that is not in their interest to do so.Reminds me of the current events in Costa Rica, the admin. has fought tooth & nail to get a 1% increase in tax thru changing their scheme(s) to provide better "higher quality" of services (which somehow has the forecast effect of raising the price of a vehicle 10%) but that's another story.

The main response from contract Unions operating within the Gov. is "So when do we get our raise?" ie: to provide higher quality services.

The counter from the admin is something like "Now times are tough, so everyone has got to pitch in." ie: lower quality life...

This is an outstanding read. Thanks Book. I think he's overly pessimistic, even by Doomer standards, but his explanation of the foundational principles leading to some sort of Doom scenario (small or large) are very well presented.

There's an important message here about gold, grub, and guns. Precious metals will increase exponentially up until the point TSHTF, but once it hits, it will all be about food, water, and energy. And the guns are there to first protect your gold, and then later to protect your grub.
