A Fredericksburg man was charged with two felonies Tuesday after he pretended to shoot at two city detectives by pointing his finger, police said.
The incident occurred outside Fredericksburg General District Court on Princess Anne Street following a preliminary hearing for the suspect’s son, city police spokeswoman Natatia Bledsoe said.
Detectives Carlos Reyes and Wayne Hunnicutt had testified against the son, and the father apparently wasn’t happy with what they had to say.
Bledsoe said 58-year-old David Thomas Loveless was overheard making a comment about getting back at the detectives and made a gun gesture toward them as they got into their vehicles.
A city deputy who saw the gesture reported it, and a magistrate later issued two felony warrants for assault on a law enforcement officer by intimidation.
Loveless was also charged with two misdemeanor counts of obstruction of justice. He was arrested late Tuesday and placed in the Rappahannock Regional Jail under a $6,000 bond.
His son, 22-year-old James Kenneth Loveless, is charged with burglary, larceny with the intent to sell, assault on a police officer and resisting arrest.
He is charged in connection with a March 15, 2010, break-in at the Greenbrier Apartment complex in which electronics such as game systems, cellphones and a computer were stolen.
Police searched his home and arrested him last month after receiving information they believed linked Loveless to the 2010 theft.
Bledsoe said that during Tuesday’s hearing, deputies saw the elder Loveless silently mouthing words and shaking his head in response to testimony.
