Couldn't decide where to put this so here is goes. I think this is a neat idea. Not sure about bug out potential but a good use for an old propane tank IMO.

Am linking to another forum where some one has converted an 9kg propane tank into a stove which can be disassembled and packed inside itself.

Interesting. I imagine it would have to monitored closely to keep temps low and keep the fire from going out.

We used to cook chickens and ribs in roasting pans placed inside of a pipe BBQ pit with a wood fire on each side. We maintained about a half inch of water in the bottom of the roasting pan. It was a lot of work to clean up afterwards.
When I think of a cast iron Dutch oven, I think stews and beans. I doubt this stove would be appropriate for dishes that need to be simmered for hours.
