very cool. I've been looking at camper trailers for a while now. I'm guessing that one goes for something near $40K. People generally buy these style when there is a woman involved. They tend to like a few more homey mod cons.

I'm looking for an off road camper based on a normal box trailer and tent. Soft floor. There are many companies making them down here. There are also a lot of as new, near new ones for sale in the papers. A lot of people seem to buy them and decide it's not for them after a short while or upgrade to something like that camper or a full body van.

I can't seem to find a good example but something like this:

I was surprised at the price at the end, 50+K. That could get quite a rig here, more than a trailer.

I've been living, mostly out of 19' rv for the past month or so, and just love the lifestyle. There's all sorts or different types, based upon personal preference.

Sounds like you are looking for a pop top trailer, as we call them here. Lot's of them for reasonable prices.

We got the popups down here as well. I agree for $50K you are into a full body trailer/caravan. I looked at RV's as well. I'm really looking for something with good off road capabilities. If I need to leave the camper somewhere I still have wheels to get around, which appeals.

The conquerer has a lot of good features and is very well built. It is very similar to a South African design camper. Someone has posted them on here before. I like that there is very little to get snagged on underneath and it still retains a very high clearance and exit angle. That means it should be able to take just about any terrain, although I was worried about the weight. I don't get audio on these YT vids so I didn't know what he is saying.

I can hear the audio now and he says its 1350Kgs which is pretty light IMO. In the ball park. That vehicle is a Nissan Patrol I think so it's got the power and is pretty much bomb proof.

I don't know about the independent suspension. There's pro's and con's for everything I guess.

Basically I'm looking for a tent top camper

This one's got a dinghy rack. You can get different size tents, annexes. A kitchen that swings out on the back gate of the trailer. Underside protection is the thing. Usually you put water tanks underneath which means they are succeptible to damage.

But even this one is $12K which is a bit steep for what it is. I think you can get same for under $10K. I don't need stainless steel sinks and such.

I ordered a 4x4 truck 2 months ago. Still waiting for it to turn up. I'm not very confident it is going to appear at this point. needs about $10K spent on it before even considering the hard core off road stuff. Getting a trailer might be a while.

That's a cool setup, Glass. I like it.

I've been learning a lot about the whole rv lifestyle lately, and am hooked on it. I suppose I like the freedom of being nomadic.

The biggest hindrance to a small light trailer like that is stowage, water, food. It all adds weight, and tires and axle ratings really limit what you can carry. All that has to take into account.

With my rig, I went 7 days. My fresh water tank went from 3/4 to 1/4. The gray water went from E to 1/2, and the black water went from E to 1/2. That's not too bad, though I wasn't there much due to work, and was really conserving water. I learned to take quick cold water showers, just to keep clean.

I suppose with a small trailer you tow, you can carry spare water in the truck. 20 gallons in the back would last quite some time. I really like how that small trailer turns into a huge tent. Very cool.

Better to have water filtration than just storage. That way you can always refil the tanks, have potable water and purify the rest.

When we used to go hiking/camping we'd have one of those 5 gal solar heater/shower bag things. Its nice to have a hot shower. Trick to it is you get yourself wet, turn the water off, lather up and rinse off. You can get away with very minimal water usage that way. Hit the key areas for hygine (you know...).

Never did have the luxury of a camper. It was whatever we could take on our backs and hike in, or pull out of the car and set up (those were the best, lol).

Water isnt a major issue in the regions we traveled, from Florida to the Carolinas theres usualy water to be found.

Freeze dried is really the way to go for light weight. Grab some books of wild edibles where ever you plan on traveling and that will greatly suppliment. Same goes for wild game.

I really need to get some good wild plant books, and wild game books. If you have any favorites, let me know. I'm lacking in that area, in knowledge and experience.

As far as freeze dried, I agree. I do have a ximmy bucket in the RV. The costco one, the arc bucket (30 days). I'm pretty good at taking quick "boat" showers, which has helped extend the limited water supply in the RV.

Here's another neat option. The Innovan.

I LIKE that one, Solid. Too bad it's "down under." Some of those beach fishing photo makes this old man dream! Poor Helen. LOL
