Employees of the US military contracting group Academi (formerly Xe, Blackwater USA and Blackwater Worldwide) are seen in new leaked video shooting their machine guns at random while driving through the streets of Baghdad, crashing into other cars and even running over a pedestrian without hesitation.

Academi received a $250 million contract by the Obama administration to provide military services in Afghanistan.

What is Academi (aka Blackwater)?

Harper's Magazine
“The Warrior Class”: The Blackwater Videos
April 2, 2012

The April 2012 issue of Harper’s Magazine includes “The Warrior Class,” a feature by Charles Glass on the rise of private-security contractors since 9/11. The conclusion to the piece describes a series of videos shown to Glass by a source who had worked for the private-security company Blackwater (now Academi, formerly also Xe Services) in Iraq. Clips and photos from the videos are shown below, introduced by Glass’s descriptions:

* The first [video], identified as “Baghdad, Iraq, May–*September 2005,” showed Blackwater convoys racing through town. Suddenly, the door of a Blackwater SUV opened and a rifle fired at passing traffic. “They opened the door,” my companion said. “You should never break the seal.”

* A still photo showed some graffiti scrawled on a metal beam: THIS IS FOR THE AMERICANS OF BLACKWATER THAT WERE MURDERED HERE IN 2004 SEMPER FIDELIS 3/5 PS FUCK YOU.

* The next tape had been taken by a camera in the turret of an armored vehicle. An [M4A1]11. Corrected text. The gun was initially misidentified as an AK47 fired from the turret at cars that had stopped to let the convoy pass. Whoever was firing the [gun] did so enthusiastically and often, sending rounds into parked cars and an overhead bridge. Another sequence showed a contractor vehicle rear-ending a car, shattering its back windshield.

The footage continued. A Humvee smashed into a car to move it out of the way. Guards swore at passersby. More armored vehicles smashed into civilian cars.

* Blackwater helicopters shot at targets below in a Baghdad street.

But what about the tape dated April 1, 2006, which was shot from the front seat of the fourth car in an armored convoy? Driving along a wide boulevard in Baghdad, the lead vehicle swerved close to the curb of a traffic island. A woman in a black full-length burka began to cross the street. The vehicle struck the woman and knocked her unconscious body into the gutter. The cars slowed for a moment, but did not stop, nor did they even determine whether the victim was dead or alive. A voice in the car taking the video said, “Oh, my God!” Yet no one was heard on the radio requesting help for her. Most sickeningly, the sequence had been set to an AC/DC song, whose pounding, metallic chorus declared: “You’ve been...thunderstruck!”

The tape ended with the inscription IN SUPPORT OF SECURITY, PEACE, FREEDOM AND DEMOCRACY EVERYWHERE.

That vid sucked. The "woman" who walked into the street should have been watching. It was not the driver's fault. Also, those convoys went through hot areas. If they stopped they were shot. I had a classmate in such a convoy-non military, who was shot dead in a similar scenario.

I'm sure Dr. K is very proud of him.

I watched this the other day.

The clips are from 6 years ago plus. What has gone on since?

Yeah... well when people are on missions to help the locals and end up getting shot by them, they are in the wrong place. But you don't have to be an asshole about it either.

Your classmate chose to go into a "service" that is into "nation building".

Right or wrong, he chose to end up in another's backyard. What would your reaction be if scary muzzies were patrolling under the UN flag here?

He was ex-military.... not on a military mission in Iraq. As I recall, sweetheart Saddam had invaded Kuwait where his fine republican guard raped & pillaged. They deserved to get wiped out. The problem, though, was that we had the chimp GW Bush as CIC.

Uhhhh,

Sadam thought he was given the green light by buddy Bush and Rumsfeld. GW is former CIA to consider him a chimp is greatly denying the ability of the man and the people behind to manipulate.

edit.

You say your friend was in a convoy just as shown above, but was not on military mission?

Spec, I watched the video three times and it sure looks to me like the driver swerved to intentionally hit the woman. I know, I know, I can't believe my lyin' eyes.

Looks like she may have had some right of way as she didn't stop at the street, all the other vehicles look to be stopped when the convoy blew through.

Some of you folks want to make a big deal of this nothing video. You should try living in a war zone.

If you are stopped at a traffic light and suddenly a mob of animals surround your car, breaking in the windows with bricks and blades, are you going to worry about the traffic light or whether you run some of them over?

In a war zone, you move fast or you die. When you saw the vehicle swerve, what was to the left of that vehicle that it did not hit?

You can try to justify it but in the end it is murder, no matter how you cook it. Take an exact duplicate of this situation but pretend that it is your country and Moslem invaders have illegally entered your country with the pretext of finding one man. To find this one man who has not even been convicted of a crime, they totally destroy your nation and kill hundreds of thousands of your country men (Christians). They are rampaging through the streets and shooting at random. They ignore traffic signals and run down an innocent woman. It's all good though because a mob with bricks just might attack a convoy armed with automatic weapons.

Ok.

You are talking out your arse. You did not see what was ahead. You saw a little video clip with a limited view. From that you appointed yourself prosecutor, witness, judge, jury and executioner. Mighty big of you. I prefer to judge things with a little more caution and temperance.

I didn't see any temperance in your reply. You saw the same video as I and you appointed yourself the same as you say I did. We both have a point of view.

Did you even read my post in it's entirety? So if you turn the tables and put Christians and your own country in the place of Moslems and Afghanistan, how does it feel to you? Do you see what I am saying? It is inexcusable. You defend the indefensible and that is why you strike out at me for my opinion alone but cannot refute my reasoning.
