Need to answer someone in a discussion, and my US history is very spotty.

Who else in the 20-th century was underdog with anti-socialist policies, went just like Ron Paul county by county , and won either Republican/Democratic nomination or Presidency?

Thank you for you replies.

Thank you. But if Wiki is anywhere on topic, Robert Taft is as oligarchical of a candidate as they come:

Robert Taft was a product of one of America's most prominent political families. He was the grandson of Attorney General and Secretary of War Alphonso Taft, and the son of President and Chief Justice William Howard Taft and Helen Herron Taft. His younger brother, Charles Taft, served as the Mayor of Cincinnati and was the unsuccessful Republican candidate for Governor of Ohio in 1952. As a boy he spent four years in the Philippines, where his father was governor. He was first in his class at the Taft School (run by his uncle), at Yale College (1910) and at Harvard Law School (1913). He was a member of Skull and Bones

ok, that's good info! +1

But looks like he lost all 3 times he tried to win Republican Party nomination.

I am just trying to see if Ron Paul has a flying chance.

Ron doesn't have a flying chance because of TPTB. (Much higher than "Government")

when the number one rated news channel (and a conservative/republican "we love the constitution" one at that) is openly making fun of you, you don't stand much of a chance with middle america.

Whether someone have don it before or not doesn't determine if he has a flying chance or not. Theoretically I would say his chances are good. Practically I would say he has a greater chance of getting a bullet in his head. But probably another option would stop him prior to that.

Bingo!

Warren G Harding: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_G._Harding

In 1920 he went in to the convention with the fewest delegates, and ended up winning...

And he didn't get it until the 10th ballot.
