No I'm not being paranoid, just curious.

There is nothing wrong with your computer. Do not attempt to adjust the picture. We are controlling transmission. If we wish to make it louder, we will bring up the volume. If we wish to make it softer, we will tune it to a whisper. We will control the horizontal. We will control the vertical. We can roll the image, make it flutter. We can change the focus to a soft blur or sharpen it to crystal clarity. For the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear. We repeat: there is nothing wrong with your computer. You are about to participate in a great adventure. You are about to experience the awe and mystery which reaches from the inner mind to — The GSUS forum.{0}{0}{0}

I think we just lost 4 days. GSUS took a time machine back.

I don't control the jokes, they write themselves:

GSUS rose after 3 days.

Well the server was down most of wed/thurs/friday, up again friday night...I think... So May 23rd-25th = down or spotty reception. Much of the time the site was up but displayed a message that they were flushing out technical issues.

Looks like we are now running on a 24 or 48 hour backup from that point, All posts from the 20th were captured, they stop at 2AM May 21st.

When we came back online tonight (being friday night), I checked the last post made, 21st May 2012 02:07 AM

Given this information I would conjecture that the HDD that contained the more recent posts, crashed. So the admin got a new HDD & loaded us to the last full backup. That's my guess.

But hey there has not been an announcement about it yet.

He actually did leave a heads up, saying there was a hack in the thanks function, and to expect more down time.

But then again, maybe it's Mayhem.... :)

Is the loss of the “thanks” button a temporary thing?

I would give a thanks, but ........

Even if I thanked you on the 20th, it would not show on this backup from the 19th.

i'm not sure how much control the Admin's have over the server hardware.

was it a 'mechanical' hard drive that failed ?

would a Solid State drive be more reliable ?

the prices are dropping fast and about as volatile as the Silver market - the 256 GB M4 CT256M4SSD2CCA drive from Crucial is one of the better ones

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148449

you can pick them up for $219, just need to wait for the distributors to have one of their periodic sales.

This upgrade is having some issues. It is being done by the host. We removed the "Thanks" feature because it was hacked. It was an add-on, and it had vulnerabilities that someone was able to exploit.

They still need to complete the upgrade. So be patient for a few more days, Sorry about all the disruptions.

This should be a relatively simple task (I've done it a few times in the past, and most probably did not even notice), but with the hack, and some problems the host is having it is becoming complicated.

Did the thanks feature just get hacked for our site or did it infect the whole vbulletin forum family? And will the thanks feature be returning or is it gone for good?

OSHO's Ten Commandments

Never obey anyone's command unless it is coming from within you also.
There is no God other than life itself.
Truth is within you, do not search for it elsewhere.
Love is prayer.
To become a nothingness is the door to truth. Nothingness itself is the means, the goal and attainment.
Life is now and here.
Live wakefully.
Do not swim—float.
Die each moment so that you can be new each moment.
Do not search. That which is, is. Stop and see.

this is one of the web forums where people tell the truth about the ongoing Criminal History of the Jews.

they have a number of admitted Overt programs to try & control the Internet. plus who knows how many covert programs.

G-S.us is probably on the Talmud worshippers' list of "websites to fvck up".

& yeah, some of them might be GIM2 guys.

Status update:

1. We are back where we started (4.1.3), except "Thanks" is gone.
2. Nothing happened over the holiday weekend, and I did not push it. I want the right person working on this, and I think a lot of people were gone over the weekend.
3. Our host upgraded some of their systems over the weekend, so they are checking things out to be sure that was successful.
4. They will then upgrade us to 4.2.0.
5. At that point I will assess what our "Thanks" options are.

There is another thread tracking this: http://gold-silver.us/forum/showthread.php?61245-No-quot-Thanks-quot

EDIT - Yup. The forum was down, lost more posts from today, and there is a new "Today's posts" option above the "Subscribed Threads" option under the "Quick Links" drop down menu.

JohnQPublic

Ok. They finally got 4.2.0 successfully installed. I think we did lose a few posts from this morning (I know one of my threads is gone). I am looking into "Thanks". The "Thanks Hack" is the same as previous, but has been upgraded by different VBulletin users. Let me see if it is going to be safe to install again.

I need to do some clean-up, reinstall the Kitco ticker, etc.

JQP,

is it possible to get the "What's New?" link changed to the "New Posts" link?

http://gold-silver.us/forum/search.php?searchid=668458

The "New Posts" (above) link is much better than "Whats New?"

At this moment I have no issues. I updated my FF. I think I was having the smiley issue at work. I couldn't get into the extra panel of smilies.

This is posted from the updated FF.
