No, I'm not going to knock anyone off, but I was thinking of my mother in a SHTF situation and all my gear is way to powerful for her, so I was thinking a .22 pistol would be a nice to have.

That's a good idea gOd, I have a .22 Ruger MK and it is light and easy to use.

Is that a revolver?

Oh sorry, I thought you just meant a pistol. It is a good one though, just have a couple of magazines filled up and it is easy and simple to use, especially for somebody who doesn't use guns all the time.

Actually not that I think about it at Ruger .357 might be perfect but it takes the .38 round which isn't too bad.

Here's a semi auto that has a flip up barrel, ie: you don't have to rack the slide. You can get it in .22 .25 .32 and .380, the .22 is called the Bobcat

Most good .22 revolvers are single action only. Ditto taters suggestion of the Beretta with tip up barrel, or the same in 380.

Sig P220 -- it can be converted to .45 ACP. Although I would in this situation get a small caliber centre fire revolver. No controls, just point and pull the trigger. Most revolvers will use a .38 as the smallest calibre, but you may be able to find an older one that fires something smaller.

You can't put a silencer on a revolver, if you planning on knocking someone off.
Err, oh yeah, you're not...
GSG and Chiappa both make .22 caliber semiautos that are 1911 style. I think they both come with threaded muzzles too, for the silencer you won't need.

My mom, in her mid 60's, wields a S&W Lady Smith in .38. She didn't think .22LR or .22 MAG had enough take down power.

You can put a supressor on SOME revolvers. They must have a sealed chamber to do so. The Nagant M1895 is such a revolver and can be had for about 100 bucks or less. It uses a sub sonic .30 (.311) bullet that packs a decent punch all things considered.
For a good range .22, its hard to beat a Ruger MK 2 or 3 (II/III). They are affordable and reliable, if a bit of a PITA to fully stirp down. If you're looking to put a can on it, check out some of the NFA forums, like www.fullauto.com (IIRC) they usualy have sections specificaly for can's and the stamp process as well as LOTS of ammo experimentation to find the right combination of ammo to the specific gun and can combination they all use.
