4 powerful Traits of Survivors

There are some common personality traits that most survivors have in common. The following is a list of the 4 most common traits of people who have survived extraordinary situations.

1. Survivors stay Calm in the face of Danger.

A survivalist has the ability to stay calm in the face of whatever life may throw at him. It’s not that the survivor is without fear, instead he has the courage to face his fears. To be able to stay calm in the face of danger requires preparation & training. The more information you have the easier it is to stay calm during any survival situation.

2. Survivalists are Experts at Improvisation

Survivors can find a use for everything around them. They know how to pick gear with multiple purposes, and they know how to improvise when they find themselves without the needed tools or gear. Survivors have the ability to make fire without matches, find water where there are no faucets, and find food where there are no stores.

3. Survivors are D.I.Y Experts

They are the ultimate tinkerers. In day to day life, the survivalist will find away to fix something that’s broken, before running off to Walmart to buy a new one. These skills are indispensable in an emergency situation.

4. Survivors are Great Leaders

They know how to make the tough decisions that will keep the people around them alive. During an emergency situation, while most are panicking and making stupid mistakes, a survivalist will stop, access the situation and then take action. They are the ultimate leaders!

I try to stay as lucid as possible during extreme moments ( I remember keeping calm when I lost control of my car during rain and snowstorms and that abilty helped me to recover before disaster struck ).

I can do it .....though I do make the effort to keep as much gear on me as possible EX. EDC Pocketknife and a oversize Maxpedition Wallet to carry useful essentials.

I am not a tinker but I could be excellent support character for some one who has the knack for it.

I dont care to lead........... they are first people to get sacrificed and will always get the blame and NONE of the glory should it work out. I would rather be a General then a President.

I have all of those traits, and I am a survivor as well.

I also have all of those traits. Most if not all of them are due to my father showing me how to survive, make things as I need them, and do things / repair things yourself. I was taught how to lead during my military service.

I'm good at everything but #3. For some reason I've never been the macgyver type.

I learned the hard way with buying cars I could afford back in high school. Was ALWAYS under the hood fixing that piece of shit car. You find all sorts of things to do to keep the engine running. Especially when you're a broke high school student.

The people who don't want to lead make pretty decent leaders...

Conversely- watch out for those who want to lead. Run from them.

Whole lot of super-heroes on this board......

I have been prepping for probably 7 years. I am not confident in my ability to do any of that (the amount I know or can look up) under pressure. If you think you are just gonna go do it, you better get to practicing. For any of the above, that actually can do everything and be the fishers of men, I didn't mean you.

I hope you all will help me as I would you. Just don't ask for food unless you are working on making more food.

Bzzt...you lose. Honesty isn't one of the 4 powerful survivor traits. Now go make me a sandwich. :)

I would think if you are great with 1, 2, and 3 you would be promoted to 4 naturally.

That's usually how it goes. I never ask to be "leader" in things that happen. Around 2003 we had a tornado sweep through my apartment complex. I went outside started accessing the damage to the area (mainly my vehicle) and noticed that the storm drains were completely plugged with debris and water was building up. There were a couple of cars at the bottom of the hill almost completely submerged it was so deep. So I went back inside put on some shorts and just went through the area cleaning debris from the storm drains. People saw me doing that and started doing it as well. I also went around asking anyone if they needed a hand cleaning up and took a ladder up to the roof to put up some plastic as a temporary patch until the apartment complex got around to the repairs.

I guess the true test of a leader is helping others, by leading by example and taking initiative to solve problems. If others follow, great. But I never once said I'm doing this and that and expect others to follow.
