View Full Version : Quayle's Red Screen Alert 6.14.2012 got me to thinking...

Some of the conflicting "sources" of info upon which I evaluate my actions & past/current/future responses:

guru vs grounded?

insider vs inside me?

bank run vs bank balance?

bunker vs hunker down?

Lindsey vs Quayle's "V" vs Sinclair vs Faber vs Rogers vs Willie vs ZERO vs .... ? ? ?

The old saying is, "No one rings a bell at the top."...same goes for bottoms me thinks.

I've about decided except for the broadstrokes in God's Word about this era/clime/end times and specific metaphysical/spiritual teachings, this is engineered by TPTB to be more cacophony vs. actual bell ringing at the top. What makes me and mine think I'll know the difference between ding-a-lings and their annoying bell ring/wringings?

My adult son has 2 metrics he measures anyone who is speaking within his hearing:
1) who is that speaker to me?
2) what is that speaker trying to get me to do?

I don't know Quayle let alone Source V
Ditto Lindsey
Ditto Dimon
Ditto Durden
Ditto Sinclair
Ditto Willie
Ditto Chapman
Ditto Faber
Ditto Rogers...
....so according to my son's metric #1, these people are nothing to me.

Acc'd to my son's metric #2,
what ARE they trying to get me to do...
panic?
hurry?
run?
shoot people that are different in race color creed age and status than the Quaker-ish "bless us 4 and no more, Lord, AMEN?"
buy elaborate underground shelters?
...I truly don't know.

I think there are some others on here thinking similar thoughts...like the GS'er old steal who wrote they haven't any more room for storage of additional beans, bullets, nor bandaids.

Hopefully some of the rest of you will chime in and share your X vs Y and how you measure what convinces you "THE non-liberty bell has been rung for you and yours and it's time to run and or stay and start shooting now..."

Any input? More questions than answers here.

TPTB are getting rich creating this discordant environment that now REQUIRES psychotropic meds and booze and comfort food to endure. Ever notice that all the websites that warn us of imminent doom sell Preps like food storage and ironically also sell gold and silver while they themselves demand paper federal reserve notes as payment? Your son's metrics are sane.

Beefsteak, I like your son's metrics!!

It's all about manipulation.

Here's an article from 1933 about FDR devaluing the dollar---Amazingly, the huge headline was "State Gets Beer as Comstock Signs" It was coincidentally also the end of Prohibition!!

If I can get the front page into a smaller file; I'll post that too. (again the smaller version is showing up!)

Do not appreciate the hijacking of this thread.

Yours truly was really hoping for serious input into what GS'ers would contribute as to what set of circumstances or qualifiers are used to determine which "the financial world has suffered its final blow and it's time to take immediate action of some kind.

I'm disappointed as I was hoping to learn something useful.

Thanks beefsteak, I wanted the newspapers to stay with this thread. As I always say, look to the past to see the future.

My initial thoughts on the all the talk of imminent collapse are pretty much this:
History has a way of repeating itself, so I only take the Guru's talking as little warning signs. Everything has already been planned out, we really don't have any control . . . so my only hope is that a big tragedy doesn't happen while I'm off enjoying a camping trip in the Nat'l parks or forest. It could be days until I know about it. Other then that we just have to keep on living!

Recently I found myself away from home and running into a "problem" that required more FRNs that I had on me. (I usually have enough for most surprises)

What did I do? I remembered that I carry a 1/2 ounce GAE with me at all times. I struggled with the idea of selling it for the needed expense. I beat myself up over that thought, until I remembered that I bought it when gold was only 272 per ounce. Wow! Looking at it from that perspective I decided that was why I originally started buying PMs and also why I always carry some--just for this type of emergency!

The first place I went only wanted to pay 700 for it. Well I knew it was worth over 800 that day so I found another place. Sure enough they bought it at half of spot. I didn't know if that was good enough or not; but I was also getting over 800 for something I had less then 136 in.

Moral of the story? We don't know when and what will happen. We can only make preparation based on our finances and view of our own thoughts. We also have to be mentally prepared to follow through with plans and understand that why we made them.

My first reaction to this thread is that there's probably a very interesting discussion here somewhere, but I was grappling with what the actual question was. After re-reading, I think you are asking how a person is supposed to know what action to take in response to the mixture of truths and lies that appear in these stories.

First, let me say that your son's two metrics are excellent. Everyone, including you and I, has an agenda that influences everything they say, and how they want people to respond to it. Looking at your list, I'd put the most stock in Jim Rogers, as he seems to need the least from his followers. He's an old-timer, he's financially set, he's positioned himself in another country (which means he's acted on his own philosophy), and he's careful not to come across as an alarmist. Only a handful of these guys seem very sincere and are not primarily focused on making a name for themselves. One guy not on your list that I value is Jim Grant. I also value Chris Martenson because he has a scientific method, he's totally based in fundamentals and admits the timing and severity of events is impossible to pin down, and he's already financially secure yet has taken personal action to abandon his lucrative Fortune 50 career to move to a modest house in a more rural location.

I definitely consider the source and tone of what I'm reading. I'm wary of exaggerated statements, or statements that sound impressive but don't withstand scrutiny. What I'm looking for is facts of which I was previously unaware, or new insights. I'm not simply looking for someone's unsubstantiated guess. For example, if I read an article about why gold is going to $5,000, and it provides a list of fundamentals favorable for gold, that doesn't tell me anything I don't already know, and it usually doesn't tell me why those fundamentals point to $5,000 instead of $3,000 or $10,000. So I view it as a propaganda piece.

The other thing I look for is consistency between viewpoints. If I read 5 people who each say 10 things, they might have 3 concepts that are consistent. Those 3 will then become important to my own thinking, and I'll take the rest with a grain of salt.

Having said that, my answer would be that you (or anyone else) shouldn't be looking for a "moment" or a "flash point". There's no bell to be rung. You should be looking for an underlying credible theme, use it to evolve your personal philosophy on how you structure your life. For instance, it's going to take an awful lot for me to go buy/build a bomb shelter. That's not to say one wouldn't be useful or prudent, but taking that action doesn't fit into my current philosophy. Even a "bugout location" doesn't fit into my personal situation, though I can understand how it might fit into others.

And as has been said many times on this site, if your preparation for some potential future disaster is creating an actual disaster in your current life, then you are doing it wrong. That's the first test of whether you should be taking action.

Sorry for the hijack beefsteak, sometimes things happen.

In answer to you questions above.

I don't know Quayle let alone Source V quack, don't know V
Ditto Lindsey Buy my books, I beg of ya.
Ditto Dimon JP Morgan Dimon? If so, insider, go opposite of any advice they give. Think of Goldman's client recommendations.
Ditto Durden Rarity in the panic, they did post some Ben Fulford once about a year ago. I think of them as info you can't get anywhere else. With excellent comments.
Ditto Sinclair Insider/talking his book. I don't trust him for some reason.
Ditto Willie Bob Chapman thought he was a fruitcake/moron.
Ditto Chapman Bob? Took from him to open my eyes and prepare and think of other reasons why.
Ditto Faber I get the same here as I do with Bob Chapman
Ditto Rogers... Soro's partner, he talks the right game, but he was Soro's partner.

I like your son's metrics. I believe I use them from time to time, but I don't believe I have ever seen then written down. Seeing the text, makes the reasoning behind the questions more concrete in substance.

I am looking for someone who is not talking their book. Granted, I have a tendency to not ask this question from time to time.
Like Schiff going bonkers for Europe while trashing US stocks. All in all he was talking his book in this area.

Short-term, Sprott is talking his book. Getting people to buy silver makes his etfs look good. I still believe that silver is undervalued.
Read some Kid Dynamite on his take on Sprott.

Same can be said for Ron and Rand Paul. Once politicians, always politicians. They talk a good game though.

I forgot to post that I listen to multitudes of people looking for the trigger event along with their take on situations.
In most of the board members little worlds "inside info" is not to be had. So compared to the rest of the teevee nation out their, we get a leg up on information along with the time to use it to our advantage. I am not saying that the "flash point" will be an immediate trigger(minutes). Call it the trend watching.

The trends can speed up though. What would you think if 5 more banks in Italy closed up for a month next week along with 4 others in Greece and a few others scattered among the rest of the Piigs?

I am also not saying that the "flash point" will even occur. The current environment could continue to be a grind it out thing. However, I think TPTB want a big shebang. They love the attention that their creations garner. This is why I still look.
