Ok, if you're actually down to using a generator, it seems to me these are the two most important things:
Fuel efficiency. Fuel is like liquid gold in this situation.
Being quiet. If everyone within a quarter mile radius can here you are running a generator, you're basically screwed.
So therefore I'm posting this deal I came across for one of the quietest, most fuel-efficient generators out there. 2000 watts (1600 watts continuous), $791.

Pay with Amazon Visa and enter GARDEN20 at checkout
Unbeatable price on an excellent generator at Amazon when you use your Amazon Visa card. If you don't have one, apply for one and get another $30 (maybe $40) discount.
I'm sure the crappers will be along to say that you can buy 6 to 9kW generator for the same price or even less, which is true if that's what you're after. The deal here is that this is at least $100 cheaper than you will find this anywhere else, and it is rarely discounted.
Compares very favorably with the Honda EU2000i, and even eclipses it in some regards.

can these be daisy chained like the Honda? I haven't seen the Yamaha in operation. The Honda ia very quiet. I was amazed. You are literally about 1 meter from it before you can hear it. The Honda vibrates a lot IMO. Fast. Don't know what that does for wear. Good companies backing them up.

You can daisy chain these like this:

The Honda I have meets both criteria as mentioned in the OP, but I sure as hell paid a lot more than $800 for it. I would jump on this deal if I was in position to.

i also suggest checking on Craigslist - you get amazing deals, including on generators.
e.g. 5000 watt generator for $200 - you just have to check them out to see how loud they are and how they do under load.

Vacuum,
THAT $200 discount deal is over 6.30 it would appear. Does Amazon do these "$200 discount type deals" often? Do you know?
Did find the daisy chain connector about which you spoke. I didn't know these things existed. THANKS!

They aren't cheap, but I can sure see the usefulness! ($100)
Looking at the larger Zoomed images on Amazon, could some of you more savvy types help an old man understand which opening the green ground goes into? I can see the red/black openings up higher on the RH side of the control panel.
Thanks.

Beefsteak, this is a 20% off deal on the entire garden department at amazon to promote summer, which has occurred this year and last year (I can't say how long they've been doing it). The generator is priced the way it is because of the blanket 20% off of the department and it's in that department. They might close the loophole on this generator next year, it's unknown.

I have been looking at these for the pure sinewave. I haven't checked the specs to compare to the yamaha.

I didn't see the GARDEN20 deal applied. I even logged into amazon to see if it occurred. I will look again to verify.

You only get the 20% if you use the Amazon card.

I tested it with my Amazon card, and it works. It's a JP Morgan Chase card though, so you're helping the Beast. I always pay it off right after I buy something on Amazon and get points/discounts. If you shop with it you're basically getting a 3% discount when you consider the point system.
Unsure if I should buy this thing, it's still a lot of money, but I'm considering it.

JP Morgan has a "Chase Freedom" Visa card, with a promotion where you get a $100 if you use it to buy something $500 or more.
I was dubious. I had used the card and called them today. They say $100 will now be credited to my checking account.
Of course, what they want to do is to keep using the card so that they benefit financially in 2 ways -
* the 2%+ service fee they charge to merchants who use the credit card.
* the 19% interest they charge you - after 15 months.
When I signed up I pointed out that I had a dis-incentive to use the card, once the 19% interest kicks in. And that I was thinking about cancelling the card then.
They said that "might hurt my credit". (To which I silently thought - so what ?) I make it a point to pay bills on time & to keep a high credit score. BUT if my credit score gets dinged because I am being fiscally responsible - I could definitely live with that.
Of course, maybe, if I use the card and get the $100 credit and cancel it before they charge me interest - maybe I am still helping the Beast somehow. I'm not sure.

I find one of the best places to collect wood in the city is to go around the light industrial areas. There are usually piles of broken pallets, packing crates etc out on the road verge. F2GH. Easy pickings. Although it is going to be light wood so fast burning.

I have an electric chainsaw and will admit the thing works great in the garage and around the home. It is in no comparison to a good 2 cycle bitch of a chainsaw. keep them sharp and they all have a purpose.
