Bought me a Texas Weapon Systems dogleg and a peepsight for an AK. I really like this setup; much, much better sight picture. I'm thinking real hard on getting a Vortex Sparc to put on the rail. Should be able to co-witness with the dogleg and the sparc.

Reviews I've found have been favorable on the sparc, it's not an aimpoint but for the money it seems like a decent option. Any input is appreciated...

No loss of zero with repeated on and off of the cover?

This is the one reason I have been looking at the side scope mounts.

I'll unhinge it a few times one day this week and give a report back.

Just seeing this now, dont mean to bring up a few day old thread.

From what I've heard on the dog leg, they hold zero very well. Because they are hinged at the front sight block, they are fairly locked into the reciever as a single unit.

The other ones, which are butt ugly, but work fantastic, are Tech Sights peep. While it doesnt give you a receiver cover rail, it keeps its zero and gives you the longer sight radius.

Me, I just solved the problem with a micro-red dot mounted on my forend. 3 MOA dot, which is a little big at distance, but rings a 12 inch steel at 2-300 yards pretty well. The Dog Leg was just a LITTLE too much $$$ for me for a peep, but I would otherwise consider a good addition in all other aspects.

OK I took the _ out back for a bit. Shot a couple of 3 shot groups and unhinged the dog leg between groups. Did several 2 shot groups while unhinging between groups an unhinged the dogleg multiple times (10) after single shots. This thing is solid, kept zero as far as I can tell during my unscientific test. This was shot at only 25 meters using the peep sight but I'm very happy with the results.

Heimdal, the reason I went with the dogleg is because this little carbine had a canted rear sight block and no matter how much I drifted the front sight post I just couldn't get it to hit POA. So instead of getting the darn rear block re-aligned I came up with the idea of trying this dogleg. The dogleg locks in really nice and I ended up drifting the front sight post back to pretty much center, it has enough play that it lines up nicely. Now for some locktite and it's good to go.

Are you using an Ultimac with that red dot?

The canted sight blocks happen, unfortunatley on WASR's. Some are worse than others. I think you went in the right direction for sure.

I am currently NOT using the ultimac. Again, it was mostly a $$$ thing. Co-witness is honestly not THAT important to me. A friend of mine is giving me his old ultimak, and I will install it to see how I like it, since my red dot is designed with co-witness in mind (scout mounted micro dot).

I've shot plenty of guns both ways and it never really made a difference to me either way. I kinda lean towards NOT having a co witness just because it gives a clearer sight pciture and faster aquisition to the eye, which is the reason for using a red dot in the first place.

I'll let ya know how it goes ;)
