Raw Apple Cider Vinegar – Good for Just About Anything!
Raw apple cider vinegar has been touted as a health tonic for many years. Its use for health is documented back to the time of Hippocrates in 400 B.C.
Raw apple cider vinegar is known particularly for helping with digestion and for weight loss. The “raw” component is essential because the vinegar needs to be alive with active enzymes and cultures. This live component tends to make the vinegar cloudy which sometimes results in strands of what is called the “mother” which is the live culture starter, much like a sourdough starter.
The most common practice is to drink a small amount of raw apple cider vinegar (from 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon) in water 20 to 30 minutes prior to a meal. The famous digestive and weight loss tonic also includes raw honey. The apple cider vinegar tonic acidifies the stomach making digestion much more efficient since the average person does not make enough stomach acid. The raw apple cider vinegar is approximately the same pH as stomach acid – so when taken, it helps digestion. Note that if you have ulcers, the extra acid will actually hurt rather than help.
What is important about having enough acid for proper digestion is that the acid helps us digest meat and other complex foods. Stomach acid is also anti-bacterial, anti-fungal and anti-parasitic. Either having enough stomach acid or drinking apple cider vinegar before meals helps bathe our food in acid, killing parasites and bacteria that could be in improperly prepared food. This makes raw apple cider vinegar effective for preventing traveler’s diarrhea and food poisoning.
A proper level of acid in the stomach triggers the pancreas to release digestive enzymes and the liver to release bile, further aiding digestion. Many of the healing claims of raw apple cider vinegar are due to its regulation of the digestive tract in that it improves assimilation of nutrients and elimination of waste. Over time, this can significantly boost overall health.
In addition to making digestion more effective, a raw apple cider vinegar tonic will help detoxify the body. It contains lots of potassium, trace mineral and enzymes. Potassium is very alkalizing to the tissues of the body. Alkaline minerals are necessary for the body to effectively detoxify. Plus, potassium is very good for cardiovascular health.
Raw apple cider vinegar has been known to lower blood pressure and to clean plaque from the arteries. Apple cider vinegar helps relieve arthritis pain and dissolve bone spurs. Raw apple cider vinegar is also effective for burns – including sunburn.
Raw apple cider vinegar is also good for animals, and they love it. It aids in circulation, helps with arthritis and will help dissolve kidney stones.
There are many books on raw apple cider vinegar. There are so many recipes and claims for the health benefits of raw apple cider vinegar including relief from chronic conditions such as headaches, allergies, asthma, eczema, warts, high blood pressure, constipation and so on. Check it out. I am always surprised by how many people try it and love it – in spite of the vinegary taste.

Bragg's is the only brand you need. I've used it for years and it cured my acid reflux. Take it after every meal and it will relieve a multitude of issues. It supercharges digestion, reduces flatuence, and makes you digest your food better (which suppresses your hunger since you require less food since of this.) Just take a tablespoon with a small amount of water to dilute it and drink it straight. Very simple. Try buying it in bulk gallon jugs online too, its cheapest that way.

I carry apple cider vinegar in my EDC and my bugout bag. It's THAT important/useful. If you want it in capsule form (which isn't as good as Braggs) I recommend this (http://www.swansonvitamins.com/SWU292/ItemDetail). It's the best of the capsule form, but again, its not as good or effective as the liquid.

I have just started using it mostly for acid reflux. How long did it take for you to notice a difference?

Well the first you you do is to eliminate all food allergens. The biggest problem is wheat. I recommend you see an allergy doctor and get an allergy prick test for common food allergens (if you want to find what the specific problem might be,) though if you avoid wheat and soy you should be fine. Most food allergens are related to pasteurization/roasting. For example, I get an allergic reaction to roasted nuts, but no issues with raw nuts. I think the idea of lactose intolerance is a myth since pasteurized milk is what gives you problems. I have no negative reactions to raw milk (which I drink daily now) since it has live enzymes in it which break down the lactose appropriately, so you have no negative reaction. Grains are safe with proper sprouting and/or fermentation before hand, but they will typically cause digestive problems and other health issues if they are not. This is why fermented soy is safe (miso, natto, and soy sauce), while unfermented soy is bad for you (tofu, soy milk, soybean pods.) I've heard this applies to wheat too, but I personally haven't tried it. The only "safe" form of mature wheat (that I know of) would be sourdough bread since its fermented.
Anyways, back to the Apple Cider Vinegar:
I noticed an improvement right away after taking apple cider vinegar, but my acid reflux wasn't completely cured. The issue was only completely healed once my digestive system was healed from abstaining from food allergens and SLOWLY weening myself off of PPI drugs (Proton-Pump Inhibitors, like Prilosec and Nexium.) I noticed a recovery from abstaining from eating the food allergens after 4 months. It took me about a half a year to ween myself off of PPI drugs completely, they specifically design them so they are nearly impossible to get off of once you start, since if you stop cold turkey or too abruptly you get MASSIVE acid reflux to where your barfing up your own stomach acid every 10 minutes or so.
To help cure acid reflux I also recommend you check out the recipe I posted for raw lacto-fermented sauerkraut (http://gold-silver.us/forum/showthread.php?61159-Raw-Lacto-Fermented-Sauerkraut). That will do wonderful things for your digestive system and health.

Kind of OT, but I've noticed a direct relationship between acid reflux and my weight. Dr. once told me I had a faulty "valve" and that I should have surgery to fix it. Naturopath said i should just lose some weight. Lost 30lbs and the acid reflux dissapeared completely. Whenever I start to creep back over that healthy weight my reflux starts to creep back also. Seriously it's amazing how much 5lbs or so of weight around my gut can effect my reflux. Just throwing this out there because sometimes I think people are looking for a miraculous cure when all they really need to do is take a serious look in the mirror, and I'm not talking grossly obese, I'm talking as little as 10 to 15lbs over what is a healthy weight for your height. Anyways, sorry to sidetrack things.
I use to use apple vinegar to kill weeds.

I like apple cider vinegar for salads and such. I like to make meals just so I can make a salad just so I can dress it with some ACV. I never considered drinking it straight.
Likewise I find it does settle my grumbling stomach after I have eaten. Don't know if unfiltered ciders can be found here. Apple season is almost upon us so it might be time to make some from scratch.

Yes I have noticed wheat and a few extra pounds aggravate things. Allergy testing sounds like a good idea. I avoid going to see the doctor, but
I guess I should look into this. The ACV does seem to help, as does a clove or two of garlic. I would also like to have a go at the sauerkraut when I have
the time. Thanks, everyone, for the info.

it's also cheap. i bought it for the first time about 3 months ago because i am slowly eating my way through 2 sides of beef, which definitely needs to be marinated.
apple cider vinegar was just the least expensive vinegar i could fine for the marinade. for a while there, i was soaking the meat in just apple cider vinegar (+ onions, garlic, liquid smoke). that was all-right tasting. it tastes better with some wine vinegar and some vegetable oil mixed in - for the purposes of marinating meat.

Another use for apple cider vinegar, cleaning aluminum parts. If you have any corroded, oxidized, aluminum parts, use apple cider vinegar to get rid of the corrosion. When you put the part in a bowl of acv, the part actually starts bubbling. You can see the corrosion come right off. Works very well.

Is Apple Cider Vinegar That Powerful of a Health Tonic? Science Says Yes (http://preventdisease.com/news/13/071113_Is-Apple-Cider-Vinegar-That-Powerful-of-a-Health-Tonic-Science-Says-Yes.shtml)
One of the most traditional cures for almost anything is apple cider vinegar. Over the centuries, the ancient folk remedy is touted to relieve just about any ailment you can think of including diabetes, obesity and even cancer. Here's what science has found.
http://preventdisease.com/images13/apple_cider_vinegar-2.jpg
Apple cider vinegar (ACV) became well known in the U.S. in the late 1950s, when it was promoted in the best-selling book Folk Medicine: A Vermont Doctor's Guide to Good Health by D. C. Jarvis. During the alternative medicine boom of recent years, apple cider vinegar and apple cider vinegar pills have become a popular dietary supplement.
Unpasteurized or organic ACV contains mother of vinegar (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mother_of_vinegar), which has a cobweb-like appearance and can make the vinegar look slightly congealed. It's the only way apple cider vinegar should be consumed.
ACV is used in salad dressings, marinades, vinaigrettes, food preservatives, and chutneys, among other things. It is made by crushing apples and squeezing out the liquid. Bacteria and Yeast are added to the liquid to start the alcoholic fermentation process, and the sugars are turned into alcohol. In a second fermentation process, the alcohol is converted into vinegar by acetic acid-forming bacteria (acetobacter). Acetic acid and malic acid give vinegar its sour taste.
Apple cider vinegar is purported to treat numerous diseases, health conditions, and annoyances. To name a few, it kills head lice, reverses aging, eases digestion, prevents flu, prevents acne, lowers blood pressure, reduces inflammation, kills fungus, regulate pH balance, dissolves kidney stones and helps relieve allergies, migraines, asthma, nausea, heart burn and wash toxins from the body. Can it really do all these things? You bet it can and more! But what does science say?
Diabetes. The effect of apple cider vinegar on blood sugar levels is perhaps the best researched and the most promising of APV's health benefits. Several studies have found that vinegar may help lower glucose levels. For instance, a study (White, A. Diabetes Care, November 2007) of 11 people with type 2 diabetes found that taking two tablespoons of apple cider vinegar before bed lowered glucose levels in the morning by 4%-6%. In another study from Arizona State University, subjects took a drink of 20 grams of apple cider vinegar (http://diabetes.about.com/b/2007/09/12/vinegar-helps-postprandial-blood-sugar.htm) and 40 grams of water. Those with insulin resistance who drank the vinegar had 34% lower postprandial (after-meal) glucose compared to controls. Vinegar may be the most cost-effective medicine in history, but most people with diabetes still aren’t taking it.
High Cholesterol. A 2006 study reported in Medscape General Medicine, showed evidence that ACV could lower cholesterol. In a study published in a foreign medical journal, scientists found an apple cider vinegar-enhanced diet may increase in HDL (good cholesterol), and reduce levels of triglycerides. Research in rats suggests that apple-cider vinegar can help control triglycerides and cholesterol (Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry, June 22, 2011).
Blood Pressure and Heart Health. Another study in rats found that vinegar could lower high blood pressure. A large observational study also found that people who ate oil and vinegar dressing on salads five to six times a week had lower rates of heart disease than people who didn't. Researchers have suggested that ‘this reduction in blood pressure may be caused by the significant reduction in renin activity and the subsequent decrease in angiotensin II’. Potassium in the vinegar ‘balances sodium levels in the body, which aids in maintaining blood pressure within healthy limits’ and ‘apple cider vinegar also contains magnesium, a mineral that works to relax blood vessel walls and thus lower high blood pressure’.
Cancer. A few laboratory studies have found that vinegar may be able to kill cancer cells or slow their growth. One study found that eating vinegar was associated with a decreased risk of esophageal cancer. Another associated it with an increased risk of bladder cancer. In recent trials, pectin, which can be found in ACV, has shown promise in helping to slow the growth of cancerous cells within the prostate (http://www.news-medical.net/news/20100702/Modified-Citrus-Pectin-holds-promise-against-prostate-cancer.aspx). In addition, apple cider vinegar’s acidity aids in detoxifying and cleansing the digestive tract and cleaning out the colon, which supports the health of the prostate as well.
Weight Loss. For thousands of years, vinegar has been used for weight loss. White vinegar (and perhaps other types) might help people feel full. A study (Ostman, E. European Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 2005) of 12 people found that those who ate a piece of bread along with small amounts of vinegar felt fuller and more satisfied than those who just ate the bread. A 2009 study (http://pubs.acs.org/doi/abs/10.1021/jf900470c) on mice showed that consuming acetic acid (the active component in ACV), upregulates the expression of genes for fatty acid oxidation enzymes in the liver causing a suppression in body fat accumulation. In a double-blind experiment, obese Japanese were assigned to three different groups based on similar body weights, body mass indexes (BMI), and waist circumference. Each group drank a 500 ml drink containing either 30ml, 15ml, or 0ml of vinegar daily for 12 weeks. Those in the 30ml and 15ml groups had lower BMI, visceral fat area, waist circumference, serum triglyceride, and body weight to the control group of 0ml. The 12-week weight losses were modest: 1.2kg in the 15ml group and 1.7kg in the 30ml group. These two groups consumed a similar number of calories to the control group and also performed a similar amount of exercise, so the effect is not likely to have been due to an impact on appetite or other lifestyle changes. It was concluded that consumption of vinegar might reduce obesity.
Apple cider vinegar is chosen over white vinegar for many processes involving the elimination of fungus. Although they both have highly acidic properties; apple cider also contains detoxifying qualities that will clear up other skin allergies. No side effects have been found when treating the skin with apple cider vinegar, making it a cost effective and safe remedy.
Here are many other benefits of apple cider vinegar that can be applied to your lifestyle. Read the list below.
Hair: It is widely known that apple cider vinegar can be used as a rinse for your hair after shampooing to add healthy body and shine. Recycle an old shampoo bottle and fill it with 1/2 a tablespoon of apple cider vinegar and a cup of cold water. Pour through your hair after shampooing several times a week.
Face: Did you know that apple cider vinegar can help regulate the pH of your skin? Dilute apple cider vinegar with two parts water, and spread the concoction over your face with a cotton ball as a toner. You can do this at night after washing, and in the morning before you apply your moisturizer. You can also dab apple cider vinegar directly onto age spots and leave them on overnight to lighten their color.
Hands and Feet: Are your hands and feet feeling tired and swollen after a long day? Treat yourself to a personal spa massage by rubbing apple cider vinegar onto them.
Sunburn: Suffering from a bad sunburn? Add a cup of apple cider vinegar to your bath and soak for 10 minutes.
Teeth: Did you know that apple cider vinegar can help remove stains from teeth? Rub teeth directly with apple cider vinegar and rinse out.
Aftershave: Fill a bottle with equal parts apple cider vinegar and water and shake to blend.
Detox: Add 2 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar to a 1 or 2 liter filtered water bottle. Drink this throughout the day to cleanse your body and kidneys all day long.
Drain Cleaner: Baking soda and apple cider vinegar is an amazing bubbly combination that has many uses. As a drain cleaner, sprinkle baking soda down the drain then add apple cider vinegar and let it bubble for 15 minutes, then rinse with hot water. This is a safer alternative to dangerous drain cleaners.
Digestion: A small amount of apple cider vinegar, taken just prior to a meal, will stimulate production of digestive juices.
Dandruff: A home remedy for dandruff is to mix 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar with 1/4 cup water. The vinegar solution is thought to restore the restore the pH balance of the scalp and discourage the overgrowth of malassezia furfur, the yeast-like fungus thought to trigger dandruff.
Mosquito and Insect Bites: Using as little as 1/4 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar will relieve insect bites instantly.
Stomach Aches: Mix 1 tablespoon of organic apple cider vinegar with 12 ounces of warm water, and drink in the morning on empty stomach. Feel free to add a little honey or maple syrup.
Alkaline Acid Balance: Some alternative practitioners recommend using apple cider vinegar to restore alkaline acid balance. The theory behind the alkaline diet is that our blood is slightly alkaline (with a normal pH level of between 7.35 and 7.45) and that our diet should reflect this pH level. Proponents of the alkaline-acid theory believe that a diet high in acid-producing foods leads to lack of energy, excessive mucous production, infections, anxiety, irritability, headache, sore throat, nasal and sinus congestion, allergic reactions, and increased risk of conditions such as arthritis and gout.

Alrighty I picked up some ACV. Kiwi brand called Healthy Mate Raw-Unfiltered Organic ACV. $12.30 for 965ml (32.5 oz).
Also on the shelf were two US brands: Heinz & S&W, both were cheaper (more like $7 for same quantity), & filtered IE they were "clear" like filtered apple juice. So I splurged on this cloudy/unfiltered kiwi brand.
So this stuff has a "serving suggestion",
"Drink daily as tonic by mixing 2 tbsp HMRUO ACV and 2 tbsp raw organic honey in 250ml distilled water."
So I didn't measure anything out but I've got that ^ tonic at my side now (water is RO-filtered); not bad...:) Now we'll see if it sweeps me off my feet health wise?
I think I read success w/ duct tape. Colloidal silver?
not sure what to make of the "duct tape" suggestion? But I might try a daily ACV-soaked cotton ball, taped over the plantar wart with that medical tape? Or maybe just use a normal bandaid, soaking the cotton square in ACV before applying daily after shower?

(NaturalNews) Apple cider vinegar is often looked upon by natural wellness enthusiasts as a panacea for all good things. Taking a tablespoon or two of it every day is said to cure everything from gout to allergies and more. It's said that it is important that the apple cider vinegar you take be organic and have the "mother" in it to be of most benefit to you. The mother is a stringy-looking ball of matter that either floats at the top or settles at the bottom of a bottle of the vinegar and is the source of its sour, fermented taste.
Many companies are now creating apple cider vinegar drinks that contain fruity flavors to mask the sometimes harsh flavor the vinegar has on its own. The age of apple cider vinegar as a health tonic is truly here, and while there is only anecdotal evidence that it actually cures many of the things it is said to, there is also plenty of evidence of definite health benefits in other areas.
Here are some of the best documented and strongest health benefits of apple cider vinegar.
1. It Helps Ease Stomach Cramps and Diarrhea
This is a proven apple cider vinegar cure. The probiotics in the vinegar help ease diarrhea and the pectins from the apples in the vinegar ease stomach cramps. Mix a tablespoon or two in water or your favorite juice to get the best results.
2. It Prevents Indigestion
Another proven health benefit is its ability to stop indigestion before it starts. Simply mix 1 teaspoon of honey and 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (http://www.naturalnews.com/apple_cider_vinegar.html) in a cup of water and sip it slowly a half hour before you eat something you know will cause you indigestion. You'll be surprised that you feel fine after eating!
3. It Helps Ease Nighttime Leg Cramps
This old folk remedy has a long history of proof to its effectiveness. Simply mix a tablespoon of apple (http://www.naturalnews.com/apple.html) cider vinegar with honey to taste before going to bed and drink it slowly. Those nighttime cramps shouldn't bother you anymore. Do this every night before bed for continuing results.
4. It Drains Your Sinuses
Do you have a stuffy nose due to allergies or some other reason? Fix it with a teaspoon of straight apple cider vinegar (http://www.naturalnews.com/vinegar.html) in a cup of water. The harshness of drinking the vinegar without any flavoring will help drain your sinuses and clear your nose.
5. It Helps Energize You
Apple cider vinegar is excellent for beating exhaustion. The amino acids it contains counteract the buildup of lactic acid you can get after exercising or other intense physical activity. It's also full of electrolytes that help eliminate that tired feeling. Electrolytes are the same thing that are in sugary sports drinks. A teaspoon of apple cider vinegar in chilled water has the same energizing effect without the sugar and artificial colors and flavors.
Apple cider vinegar is also good for treating heartburn, easing the pain of arthritis, whitening teeth, and much, much more. There are entire books written on the miracle of apple cider vinegar. Even though many of its supposed benefits only have folklore to back them up, there is enough concrete evidence of its many benefits that many people take it every day as a general health tonic. Anyone looking to maximize their health could definitely benefit from a daily dose of this amazing amber liquid.

Not health related, but thought I'd share this amazing use for apple cider vinegar.
If you need to clean any aluminum parts that have oxidized, apple cider vinegar takes it right off. If the part is small enough, place it in a bowl of ACV and watch what happens. It's amazing, the vinegar starts bubbling and the oxidation on the aluminum part just melts away. Let is soak until the reaction is finished, and you'll have a squeaky clean part.
Also, aluminum reacts to dissimilar metals and will be eaten away. So, if at all possible, use aluminum with other aluminum parts, buy aluminum screws, etc.

The only liquid brand I would trust is Braggs. I wouldn't use the others. It's cheapest at SwansonVitamins.com. They limit your orders since they have promotional cheap prices.

Just ordered 3 bottles, that's all they let you get at one time. Use the promo code "8EMAIL13" and get an additional 10% off. Less than $14 for 3 bottles. Add shipping and it's just over $18.

Also, vinegar can be used to clean showerheads, as I did just a couple days ago.
White vinegar might work better than apple cider vinegar, because there should be less particulate in white vinegar, but I used ACV last time because that's how I roll.

I use white vinegar for camera repair work as well. Works especially great for cleaning battery compartment corrosion and fogged glass in rangefinders.

Every morning for the past five years, I have taken about 1 tablespoon of ACV with about 1/8 to 1/4 tsp of cayenne pepper. Then I take 2 drops of Oil of Oregano in a little water. I have not had the flu since 2008!!! My Cayenne pepper is about 140,000 BTU. There have been a handful of days when I took the Vinegar and Cayenne and I thought my throat was on fire. Those were the days that I was starting to get a sore throat. It burns like a mother!!!! But it only last for 30 seconds, you jump, stomp your foot and squeeze what ever you can get a hold of.
If you have an upset belly, drink one tablespoon ful and it clears it up. I drink it when I am water fasting..... takes the hunger pains away. You can rub it on a sun burn and it takes the sting out. I put it in my chickens water when their poop gets runny and it clears it up. I give it to my goats when they get sick, and also am giving it to my bucks before breed time as it makes them make more girl babies!
White vinegar works great on cleaning hard water deposits off windows!
Fred Meyers store has Braggs for 3.50 a bottle we get a few every time we go in!

What about this concern?
Straight up apple cider vinegar is much too acidic to drink straight. It will eat the enamel off your teeth and damage your throat.

Have you noticed any issues w/ your enamel? You've already covered your burning throat...

Walmart sells quarts of ACV for $1.50.
yes, i know it's Walmart.
i wonder if we could run the Walmart ACV through for chemical analysis, how it would compare to (for example) Whole Foods ACV. (though WF is a bit of a scam too).
perhaps it's not that hard to make ACV ?

I was going to post this earlier. I saw that ACV can whiten teeth. Obviously some kind of acidic action. Lemon juice does the same but it can also damage the enamel as per the OP's comments.
I thought I would try this whitening thing. Using it at night to brush the teeth. So 50% of the time. I didn't not want to go all in, in case there was a problem with affecting the teeth. Trying not to rinse it all out so it maybe works on the teeth a bit during the night. After 2 weeks. My thoughts are that it might actually work. It could be just wishful thinking at this point so I will stick with it for another couple weeks and see. I took a before pic so I can compare them. It's easy to imagine slight changes in tooth colour I think and somethings stain the teeth during the day, like coffee or tea. A work in progress but there might be something to it.
