This doesn't get enough coverage. If you live in Southern California, this is a major deal:

The truth of the matter is the radiation leaks from the San Onofre plants were SO bad that they had to shut it down. You guys know how messed up the nuclear industry is. When they shut things down like this, it's hardcore.

Camp Pendleton is just south of San O, so the US gov. wouldn't have to even "call in the troops" - they're already there ... unless deployed to fight Israel's wars.

if San O. did go "Pop", there's nowhere for San Diegans to go except North on 15 - maybe. 5 would be closed.

or, they could go East on 8 (towards Arizona) - or South to Mexico.

the tech. culture in San Diego is very much "sweep the bad news under the rug." in the defense industry, in the medical industry, even in the commercial tech industry.

i wonder how much 'margin' exists in the San O. facility to deal with a bigger earthquake. also, where they store their waste.

I believe Pendleton gets a good portion of its power from S.O., I could be wrong.

I heard from a person who works on the Camp Pendleton base last week that they are gearing up hardcore war. He said it was like what was going on right before the US invaded Iraq. Just saying.

Roughly speaking (because supply, demand, and capacity fluctuate from year to year), the loss of San Onofre will increase California’s potential dependency on out of state power by at least another 5%. This will indeed push out-of-state power dependency to 30%.
