(n) "Transmitting utility" means any person primarily engaged in the railroad, street railway or trolley bus business, the electric or electronics communications transmission business, the transmission of goods by pipeline, or the transmission or the production and transmission of electricity, steam, gas or water, or the provision of sewer service. Or a gas producer out of the other end, or even both ends for that matter.

Oddly enough, a search for "transmitting utility" on Google books brought up only several instances of "free" downloads. One of them is THE CASE FOR GOLD.

If this were an old timey legal term you can bet there would be many instances of it found on Google books. Chances are it only came about in the 1930-40 timeframe.
