First the DHS needed 450 million rounds of ammunition (http://www.businessinsider.com/us-immigration-agents-are-loading-up-on-as-many-as-450-million-new-rounds-of-ammo-2012-3#comments), then the NOAA requested 46,000 rounds (http://www.businessinsider.com/this-is-why-the-noaa-supposedly-ordered-46000-rounds-of-ammunition-2012-8), now we've discovered an online request at FBO.Gov (https://www.fbo.gov/index?s=opportunity&mode=form&id=6c39a2a9f00a10187a1432388a3301e5&tab=core&_cview=0&fb_source=message) calling for 174,000 rounds of ammunition for the Social Security Administration. The request actually calls for 174K .357 hollow points that arguably have as much stopping power as any bullet out there, and hollow point to do as much damage to soft tissue as possible on top of that.

R.K. Campbel at Gun Blast (http://www.gunblast.com/RKCampbell_StoppingPower.htm) mentions his experience with .357 rounds:

I observed the effect of the .357 Magnum 125 grain JHP once over the top of my own sights. The effect was gruesome. A solid hit that produced a severe blood flow AND dramatic effect from the rear, including lung tissue thrown perhaps three feet.

The 125 grain and JHP (jacketed rounds) are exactly the ones requested by the SSA and their offices of Inspector General and Office of Investigation.

The FBO has a link that lists all locations (https://www.fbo.gov/utils/view?id=35a0a8437a09ac45eb96f7c0a1fa315b) slated to receive the batches of bullets. Offices like Greensboro, NC are getting a mere 1,000 rounds while offices like Iselin, NJ are getting 10 times that number.

Alex Jones' InfoWars is quick to point out that this acquisition jibes with a DHS operation in January (http://www.infowars.com/dhs-officers-armed-with-semiautomatics-set-up-unannounced-id-checkpoint/) where the agency swarmed a Leesburg, FL social security office and posted armed guards outside the doors.

It would be interesting to observe the distribution of this ammunition in relation to the racial makeup of the locations receiving it.

Also, I doubt that the government is planning to arm their civil service employees. If they did that, they would have to train them on how to use those weapons. In the event of an emergency, they would likely shut down their offices and send a contingency of armed FPS personnel to prevent looting or damage to the government property.

My guess is that the most shooting will be done by DHS. Given the nature of their mission and the 'legitimacy' this organization gets from the statutes that created them, it is entirely possible that their employees are exempt from taking an Article VI oath of allegiance to the Constitution. It is also entirely possible that some of that ammunition is destined to be used on other security personnel who take their oaths seriously. DHS is going to morph into smoething akin to the Nazi SS.

This is all totally amazing considering how little evidence there is of any organized opposition to the government. Makes them look like total paranoid loony cuckoo birds. I'm sure they don't care what they look like. Their motto will evolve into something like 'Comply or die." We all better practice up on our obsequiousness skills.

Here's a retired major general expressing his concern about these ammo purchases:

http://www.washingtonsblog.com/2012/08/major-general-why-have-government-agencies-recently-purchased-enough-specialized-for-killing-ammunition-to-put-5-rounds-in-every-american.html

The Social Security Administration (SSA) confirms that it is purchasing 174 thousand rounds of hollow point bullets to be delivered to 41 locations in major cities across the U.S.
***
Those against whom the hollow point bullets are to be used — those causing the civil unrest — must be American citizens; since the SSA has never been used overseas to help foreign countries maintain control of their citizens.
What would be the target of these 174, 000 rounds of hollow point bullets? It can’t simply be to control demonstrators or rioters. Hollow point bullets are so lethal that the Geneva Convention does not allow their use on the battle field in time of war. Hollow point bullets don’t just stop or hurt people, they penetrate the body, spread out, fragment and cause maximum damage to the body’s organs. Death often follows.
Potentially each hollow nose bullet represents a dead American. If so, why would the U.S. government want the SSA to kill 174,000 of our citizens, even during a time of civil unrest?

I'm betting the DHS is "Ammo Laundering" They've reached their department allowed limit via budget for ammo and are sending it through other organizations to put it on their books for purchasing.

To everyone outside, looks like Social Slavery administration is ordering ammo. Where it winds up I'd put money it'll be a storage facility owned by the DHS.

You mean the ~1 million + rounds that DHS bought this year isn't enough?

They must be terrible shots.

Yet, if you order a couple boxes of ammo online and have it shipped to your house, you will find yourself on a 'special' list. Go figure.

The distinction is that we can *always* trust public servants who've sworn a solemn oath do the right and lawful thing...right?

either "terrible shots" or they are deliberately overwhelming the mfg ordering system, Saul Alinksky style.

The 'excuse' for ordering so much high end, premium ammo is that *supposedly* training/practice needs to be done with the same ammo that is carried in their service pistols so that there is 'consistency'. I've never heard of such a load of total fabricated horseshit. Even highly competitive pistoleros use the cheapest handloads they can acquire to gain and maintain proficiency since they burn through 100s of thousands of rounds in training/practice. And another thing, why does 'law enforcement' need to have ammo banned by the laws of war from the battlefield?? WTF are they thinking*?!?!?!!!

*rhetorical question, I know exactly what the deal is, the dimwitted donut munchers and their administrators like the taste of that Death Cult Kool-Aid

A rule of government spending is, when someone else is paying for it, buy the best.

It would seem pretty traceable to see these hollow points show up in Saudi Arabia.

If a criminal used hollowpoints in a crime, they would be "cop-killer bullets" to someone in the media.

in honor of dhs week, i picked up 1,000 rounds of hollow point .22LR at the hardware store this morning. hollow point .22 is a bit of a gimmick, but it's the best i could do.

The cop killer moniker was used in the MSM for Teflon Coated rounds, which penetrated kevlar vests.
