Topless women will be walking around downtown Phoenix on Sunday as part of what's being billed as a protest against gender inequality.

"Go Topless Day" apparently exists on an international level, in an effort to make laws about showing woman-boobs and man-boobs the same.

If guys can walk down the street "topless," then Phoenix "Go Topless Day" organizer Jenna Duffy tells New Times women should be able to do it too.

Either that, or dudes have to cover up all the time when they're in public, she says.

"Breasts are such an object of sex and desire," Duffy says. "And were saying, 'Hey, they're just breasts.'"

Indeed. There are rules to participating in the event, since the whole purpose to the event is that women in many places can not walk around topless.

Duffy explains that women have to wear tape covering their entire nipples -- areola included -- to keep things legal during the stroll around Phoenix. Men are encouraged to participate too, and should either tape up their nipples or wear bikini tops. If you'd rather keep everything clothed, that's cool too.

When asked why walking around topless was the chosen method of protest, Duffy explained that it's "just one of those small things that contributes toward equality."

The legality of female breast-showing varies across the United States -- ladies can go full-breast in New York City! -- and Phoenix police Sergeant Trent Crump tells New Times the local protest will be legal as long as the ladies keep their nipples and areolas completely covered.

Duffy says she has about 10 women and 10 men lined up so far for the protest -- approximately 40 breasts -- for this weekend's stroll.

If you're into that kind of thing, it starts at 10 a.m. Sunday at Steele Indian School Park, and will continue down Central Avenue.

I do see this gal's point however. Why shouldn't it be accepted for women to go around topless. It's really not a big deal, imo. A lot of european cultures accept it, topless women on TV commercials, topless beaches, etc. She's trying to change the laws, and what we consider socially acceptable.

True, but breasts are just another aspect of femininity, which is attractive to men. There's no doubt there's a double standard, masculinity can be proudly boasted or 'peacocking' the term I get a rise from, yet a woman's breasts need to be concealed.

On the water, a woman flashing her breasts at you is just another boater's way of saying hello. It's no big deal and happens all the time. It's not obscene, or even an invitation, it's all to get a smile.

This is one area I think the European's are more advanced socially than we are. There, there's topless women on TV in commercials during the day time. The kids, everyone, thinks a woman's breasts are just one part of her feminine grace, and to hide that, means hiding the complete package of who she is as a person.

There were No motor vehicle accidents at all in the area of the march last year on Sun. the 26th of Aug. '13.
And there are no records or reports of any accidents in the State due to the protest.

In some places the Police use topless women (and some times men) to slow down and control traffic.

If it was to become main stream, then it would be the same as a guy walking around shirtless.

While cisgender males are perfectly within their legal rights to be topless in public, women and transgender people can be convicted of Indecent Exposure (a sex crime) for the same act.:mad:

We are marching for equal topless rights for all. It is unjust to treat our bodies differently, to label our bodies "indecent".:eek:

These laws are based on heteronormative, sexist assumptions and they must go!

Go Topless Day is an international day of action for gender equality. People of all genders come together to highlight the inequality that still exists in our society and in our laws.:-[

In many places, including Arizona, we have laws that blatantly discriminate based on gender.>:(

One such law is that which criminalizes toplessness based on gender (ARS 13-1402 (http://www.azleg.state.az.us/ars/13/01402.htm)). While cisgender males are perfectly within their legal rights to be topless in public, women and transgender people can be convicted of Indecent Exposure (a sex crime) for the same act.:mad:

We are marching for equal topless rights for all. It is unjust to treat our bodies differently, to label our bodies "indecent".:eek:

These laws are based on heteronormative, sexist assumptions and they must go!

This year's march is on Sunday the 28th of August at 10am. We are meeting up at Steele Indian School Park (https://www.phoenix.gov/parks/parks/alphabetical/s-parks/steele-indian-school) and marching from there.;D

This is the fifth year in a row now Go-Topless has been in the State of Arizona. Please join us for a fun, empowering, and liberating march.:D

Please remember to wear sunscreen and comfortable shoes for the march! This year's event may include a Topless Light Rail Ride (free) so stay tuned! If you really think about it, it is BS that men can walk around without their shirts on, but not acceptable for women. On a hot day, at the beach playing volleyball, for example, or after a surf, it must feel refreshing letting a nice pair of breasts get some sun and fresh air.
