the only advantage to Facebook i can see ==>

therapy for clutter-holics.

clutterholism is a serious life-changing disorder. i had a friend whose clutter-holism
was part of his initial engagement (i was the loyal friend who helped him move his BMW parts collection from warehouse to warehouse.)

his house was so full of crap - his living room was up to about 5 feet deep in consumer crap. it took a minute to walk around crap to get to the piano.

he collected about $40,000 in old cars, for the BMW parts business that his wife didn't support. he paid about $60,000 to store his cars.

it was a depressing situation for his wife. at about the 15 year mark, she split & they got
divorced.

last i heard, my ex-officemate was meeting babes at clutter-holic support meetings in Silicon Valley.

what does this have to do with Facebook ?

well, if my friend could collect virtual Farmville stuff, it wouldn't have cluttered up his house. it may have saved his marriage.

overall i would say about 1/4 to 1/3 of Facebook registered members are active. personally i have about 10 accounts, which i use to by-pass censorship controls.

i don't buy anything. but someone is, according to official stats. i think Facebook revenue from ads & virtual Farmville crap is about $4 billion a year.

i think one of the reasons people like Facebook is because it only has "like". so all the feedback you get is positive.

That's a very sound observation and explains why they won't provide a dislike button, it would take away from the validation people crave on that site.

Same could be said for this site. I have always said from the start that if we are going to have a "Thanks" button, we should also have a "No Thanks" button.
