Super K Counterfeit Bills Meet Match With New Detector
Matsumura Technologies' EXC-5700 is 99.999 Percent Accurate

MIAMI, March 15, 2005 /PRNewswire/
-- North Korea has already waged war on the United States, according to counterfeit money expert Yoshihide Matsumura. Instead of menacing with nuclear missiles, the country has slowly been introducing counterfeit millions of $20, $50 and $100 bills all over the world. These so-called Super K bills are virtually undetectable. The only man who has been able to beat them at their profitable game is Yoshihide Matsumura, Chief Executive Officer of Matsumura Technologies, Japan.
With a series of light circuit, magnetic, laser, ultraviolet sensors, and other secret detecting techniques, his Japanese-manufactured EXC-5700 detects even the most perfect counterfeit bills.
Matsumura Technology, US, has launched the EXC-5700, the most accurate counterfeit bill detector ever in the United States. The EXC-5700 checks 76 points, nearly twice that of its competitors, yielding 99.999 percent accuracy even against Super K counterfeit bills, the intaglio-printed funny money that is virtually undetectable by traditional methods. The device is used routinely in Japanese banks, post offices, government security departments, retailers and other businesses.
"We're pleased to be offering the EXC-5700 in the United States," said Edgar Perez, President, Matsumura Technology, US, the distributor of the EXC- 5700. "Businesses will be able to detect a counterfeit before they accept the money, which will save the retail industry alone millions of dollars."
The new detector, which retails for about $1,700 is small and fast enough to be used by banks, retailers, casinos, government agencies and other industries most likely to inadvertently accept counterfeit money. It takes less than a second (0.7 seconds) to scan a bill.
"The EXC-5700 is easy to use and has saved our bank thousands of dollars," said Yuichi Osawa, Security Vice President for Currency Exchange Bank in Tokyo, Japan. "It works faster and more accurately than any detection device we've used before."
The Secret Service, which is tasked to pursue counterfeiters, says more than $43 million in counterfeit bills was confiscated last year alone, up a whopping 15 percent over 2003. There is an estimated 700 billion U.S. dollars circulating worldwide, 40 percent of which circulates outside the U.S.
Dollar counterfeits have become a big enough problem that the U.S. Treasury began rolling out new $20 bills in 2003 and new $50 bills in September 2004 that are more difficult to reproduce. But that hasn't daunted the counterfeiters.
"As soon as they figure out we've found a flaw in their counterfeits, they fix it and print more money," Mr. Y. Iida, Vice President, Matsumura Technology, Japan said. "That's why we believe detection equipment should be updated frequently."
Customers receive product support for up to seven years, which includes updates that will keep their detector one step ahead of counterfeiters.
The EXC-5700 detects both the old and the new 20's and 50's. It has the ability to check every denomination for authenticity. Matsumura is ready to detect counterfeit versions of the new generation 100's scheduled for release later in 2005.
Another model, the EXC-6700, detects counterfeit dollars, euros, yen and one other denomination of the buyer's choice. It retails for $4,700. [I]

It would seem this 2005 article indicates a newer unit either will be or already has been released in 2012. The other option would be that the stated 7 year customer support/upgrade cycle has been extended.
Status of same is currently unknown.
