was at my primary BOL for the last 4 days/3 nights and my biggest problem was
BOREDUM
next time i go out i'll take some playing cards
and maybe scan the 2nd hand book stores for old classics / doom books
i have some wild edible / plants books already in caches, but i didn't feel like digging them up
has anyone else thought about post SHTF boredum ?

I've considered it, but in my situation more than likely I will not be alone. I would imagine fending off attackers and feeding yourself and procuring more supplies would consume a lot of time. If you are by yourself, for sure I could see getting bored, just because it doesn't take a ton of calories to keep someone alive and you can easily store a years worth of freeze dried food for one person. If you are in a very rural area you may be bored, if you are urban I don't see that ever happening.
Just bring a woman and have an amish amount of kids :)

Give me a chess or Go board and a (solar charged) iPod, and I'm good to go. If not, I'll make a chess set out of bread crumbs or something.
BTW, it's been my experience that only boring people get bored...

A person with an active mind is never bored, or lonely, for that matter.

Buy a big bag of silver granule and start cataloging them, draw their shape, record weight, give each a number, and then you can memorize them, pick them up from the bag and tell the number, if you fumble and drop one between the floor boards, you will have tons of fun, breaking up the floor for hours. Not to mention, that it may be a good investment, if you can convince someone that it is silver. Maybe put a miniature stamp on each one guaranteeing it's authenticity...

I've always liked little roadster like cars. Clubbies or Clubmans, lotus 7, locost, puma, caterham type of thing. A high school friend of mine bought a little Spitfire mark II when they were starting highschool. By the time they turned 16 they had this little rocket all restored. What an amazing driving experience. Literally 4 inches off the ground, seat of the pants driving.

The attraction for me is that they are kind of a kit car. You order a kit and build it yourself. The kits can be grabbed at various stages of the build. It could be a welded chassis and everything else you need to build it up bar an engine, gear box and wheels. They say it can take 300 hours to build one from these kits or you can get one already built if you want to wait for it.
People say you need to budget about $50K minimum for one of these. Seems a bit steep to me.
Then I found the Locost concept which is based on the same lotus 7 style vehicle but you do much more of it yourself from cutting and welding the whole chassis, getting basically all the bits you need in as you go. Again you can grab a donor vehicle and use that from most of the running gear engine etc. I think a mazda miata is the best fit. You can go motor, gear box, diff, seats, wheels. brakes. A good level of re-use.
Spending smart you might get it all done for $20K. An old turbo charged 2Lt nissan engine from a sylvia in a 650Kg < 330lb car.
also thinking about buggy's. Now Manx's although they are cool, But the serious off roading stuff. That could be handy post SHTF dystopia. Mad Max style.
Anyway thinking about taking on something like this. If SHTF while I'm doing it, so be it.
Another thing that might be fun is learning how to build your own drones. if they have them why can't you have one?

Yeah, I'm going to start a project in a couple of months building a kit seaplane. I've put it off for years, but have become prepared enough elsewhere to feel comfortable enough to do it. It's about a 1000hr job, so some type of doom will most assuredly happen between now and the end of ths one, but it just hit me one day... if I let fear of this uncertain future kill my dreams, then the freedom-stealing bastards have already won.

Has tshtf for you already? Otherwise, it sounds like your prepping is done for your BOL & that's why you're bored.
As Ponce is fond of saying, work on a Plan behind the plan, etc.
In any event, hope it was relaxing & congrats!

Get an old TVR Griffith shell, and put a 400hp small block Ford V8 in it.

I can't imagine a post-shtf situation completely alone. I assume that at least one other person will be with me. I have several decks of cards (thanks to the dollar store), lots of books that I find interesting, several chess boards, all kinds of board games. I also have supplies for some of my hobbies, drawing being the easiest/cheapest to prepare for - pencils, charcoal and paper.
I guess out of all of those, books, cards (solitaire) and hobbies would work solo.

i have definitely thought of this. i flipflop between "i probably won't have time to get bored" and "i will probably need something to entertain me momentarily". so with these 2 thoughts i still buy every second-hand book i come across that i might like to read. i have cards, games, knitting. i want to get a treadle sewing machine (http://www.google.com/search?q=treadle+sewing+machine&hl=en&prmd=imvns&tbm=isch&tbo=u&source=univ&sa=X&ei=7eREUJikPKjaigLi0IGYCQ&ved=0CEEQsAQ&biw=1366&bih=595), because that'll keep me busy too and it's productive, to boot.

unless of course you BOTH smell like a dead goat.
+ tweezers to remove ticks - good thing to have in this situation.

Guys, come on. You will still have to shower and clean up after SHTF. Remove the ticks, take a shower, then get the lovin' started afterwards.

Helen and I bought some of these tick remover tools. We don't get them so much, but the animals sure do. A couple twists and they are out and gone, no tearing, no bloody mess.
Bought them from Amazon. 3 available now for $2.88 ea. Max price I've seen (in pet stores/sites: $6/ea)

Forget the tweezers and the pulling skin tearing, or placing lit cigs against their butts and they themselves backing out.
These are must have items whether SHTF or just plain animal lover/pain hater.

I don't know if you could really get bored in a true shtf scenario, alone or with folks, there will be lots to do.... I don't know if you will have time to sit around reading books?
I think sex would be quick unless somebody else was paying attention.

We are not in a SHTF thing yet, but we do - do a lot of stuff by hand. I have a hard time finding time to sit down and relax. Right now, I have a canner full of turkey cooling, dinner cooking, jobs started for work and an injured dog all going on. I can only imagine when we dont have power and I get to start washing clothes by hand, pumping water out of the well, thank goodness I recently found out that I have a gluten problem, I was so not looking forward to cranking that grain mill for 45 min every week. Next time you go to your cabin, do everything by hand, including cooking from scratch, no boxed food, no pre ground flour.... wash your clothes by hand.....Cut your firewood and cook with a wood fire. Hand pump your water for all uses. If you are feeling really spunky, go find your dinner and that does not mean what you buried or brought with you....
