DETROIT - A U-Haul being used by the secret service for Vice President Joe Biden's visit to the Labor Day Rally in Detroit on Monday was stolen out of a hotel parking lot Sunday morning.

The U-Haul was stolen form the Holiday Inn parking lot in downtown Detroit on Washington Boulevard.


The hotel has declined to comment.





The U-haul is 14-feet high, has an Arkansas backdrop on the side of the truck and has Arizona plates. The plate number is: AD09406.


Anyone who's seen this U-Haul is encouraged to call police

A truck carrying President Barack Obama’s podium, teleprompter and audio equipment was stolen in Richmond, Va., a local news outlet reports.

Sources tell WWBT/NBC12 (http://www.nbc12.com/story/15716468/thieves-steal-truck-with-presidents-equipment) that about $200,000 of presidential equipment was stolen from a Richmond Marriott hotel in advance of Wednesday’s presidential visit to Chesterfield, Va.

The vehicle was later recovered Monday afternoon in the parking lot of a Holiday Inn Express near the airport. Sources tell WWBT/NBC12 that law enforcement agencies were seen examining a white truck that was parked there.

There was no indication as to whether equipment was taken from the truck.

“No classified or sensitive information was in the vehicle. We take incidents such as this very seriously and a formal investigation is continuing in coordination with relevant law enforcement agencies,” a Defense Information Systems Agency spokesperson told POLITICO.

On Monday evening, a truck with U.S. government tags remained in the Marriott parking lot, but it was unclear whether this was the original truck returned to its owners, or a second replacement vehicle.

White House spokesperson Jay Carney said Tuesday that while he had heard of the incident, he had no independent knowledge of the matter.

Secret Service recovers stolen rental truck that had equipment for Biden's Detroit visit

DETROIT - The Secret Service says it has recovered a stolen rental truck that was carrying equipment for Vice President Joe Biden's Labor Day visit to Detroit.
Agency spokesman Ed Donovan tells The Detroit News that the U-Haul truck stolen early Sunday outside the Westin Book Cadillac hotel was found Monday in a parking lot about three miles away.

Donovan had said the truck had equipment but no weapons on board. He declined to say whether any of the equipment was stolen.

Messages seeking information were left for Detroit police on Monday.

Biden addressed a union rally Monday to mark Labor Day. The rally site is near the hotel.
