I'm willing to share some info on how one can possibly get a non-interest bearing checking account, however there are four conditions any one wanting this info must agree to:
1) Be SERIOUS about doing this - this means you MUST quit using the SS# altogether (NO exceptions whatsoever, in many instances this includes having a state issued ID), this is nothing to approach in a half-assed manner;
2) Do NOT waste my time;
3) Keep me advised of your progress as you attempt to do this, it's unlikely to work 100% of the time, but I know it's worked fairly recently - if it doesn't work at one banking establishment, then try another until you succeed;
4) I will advise you of this condition in a PM
So anyone who is SERIOUS/SINCERE about doing this feel free to PM me. If you're just 'simply curious' do NOT PM me!

My son has a passbook savings account without a SSN. They just told me to bring it in when he gets one. 3 years later, he still doesn't have one and the bank account works fine.

Savings account = interest paying account - I don't see how that works without the bank having a SS# to report the 'interest' (such as it is lol) with. I'm thinking the bank examiner will eventually catch that one.

I would love to take you up on the offer, but I'm still trying to ditch my SSN. So far all my attempts to get out have been unsuccessful.

You never had one.
All SSNs are property of the Social Security Administration.
There is no spoon! ;D
(but seriously, all the numbers belong to them; claiming such a number might constitute fraud in the conscience of an honest man)

How bad do ya want it (to ditch the SS#)? I submit not bad enough.

At my age (72) I don't mind having a SS......makes it easier to get my monthly checks :) .........bank account?, that's how I pay my house bills and only my house bills......everything else cash.......credit card? only one and I only use it to order on line (have never paid any interests).
18 more days to NO MORE PROPERTY TAXES :)))))))
