Impending Catastrophe: Spain Has Entered A Full-Scale Collapse And Created A Tremendous Amount of Instability Which Could Trigger An Imminent Lehman-Like Event And A Rerun of The Great Panic of 2008

Less than a year after sweeping to power in a landslide victory, Mr Rajoy is already fatally wounded. He promised never to apply taxpayers’ money to bailing out the banks. He already has. He promised not to follow Greece, Ireland and Portugal into a sovereign bail-out. Now, other than leaving the euro, he’s got no choice. Even on gay marriage, Mr Rajoy has failed to deliver as promised.

A further €40bn package of austerity measures has been announced in a desperate bid to get ahead of what Brussels wants of Spain and, we must suppose, thereby obtain a somehow unconditional bail-out, allowing national pride to be salvaged. These measures are almost bound to be self-defeating, for they threaten further to shrink the economy, thereby making deficit reduction tougher still. Spain is chasing its tail into austerity-induced fiscal and economic meltdown. Mr Rajoy is a dead man walking.

Other than leaving monetary union and defaulting on its euro debts, which for the moment even the rebellious Catalans don’t seem to want, is there any way out for Spain? The answer looks ever more likely to be no.

Membership of monetary union is preventing the application of appropriate monetary policy to the periphery sovereigns. The single currency has also denied Europe the natural market mechanism of free floating exchange rates to correct deficiencies in competitiveness and reduce external indebtedness.

There is only one conclusion to be drawn from all this; though the short-term costs would be profound, Spain must leave the single currency.

Spain is damned if it leaves, but damned for eternity if it stays. Eurozone policy as it stands offers no plausible way back to prosperity.

What ever happened to the traditional remedies in an economic bust? Bankruptcy. Why are the politicians trying to hold the people responsible for keeping the banks alive? That's what 'austerity' is. And although it is not framed this way by the Mainstream Media, that is what the demonstrations are about in Spain and Greece. The people are being asked to suffer so that the banks may live even though they do not deserve to live.

The bankers of course see how easy it is to get bailouts from the governments despite the objections of the people. The politicians work for the bankers. Any politician who works for the people is removed quickly. The rage of the people grows steadily. We see that in Spain, and we see it in Greece.

The US Government sees it too. That is what all the DHS ammunition purchases are for, and all the armored riot control vehicles are for and all the training is for. It is for people who will not negotiate with an enraged population.

The way out is for the banks to fail. To disappear. The politicians will not allow that to happen as long as their allegiance is to the bankers. The people will not disappear, nor will they calm down until that happens.

The whole world is in for a truly rough time as this conflict plays out. The politicians are in the greatest danger because they are squarely between the bankers and the people. I don't envy Mr. Rajoy in Spain. He might find some safety by finding a different occupation.

Be Very Careful, Beloved Spain ... Two weeks ago I was interviewed by the Catalan newspaper El Punt Avui. I said it would be unthinkable for the Spanish state to stop Catalan secession by military force. Such action would violate EU (javascript:showWindow(500,800,'/floatWindow.cfm?id=1891');) Treaties and lead to Spain's suspension from the European Union. You do not do such things in the early 21st Century. "No pots ser membre de la UE si utilitzes la força" was the headline. I may have underestimated the vigour of the Spanish officer corps. First we have the robust comments of Colonel Francisco Alaman comparing the crisis to 1936 and vowing to crush Catalan nationalists, described as "vultures". "Independence for Catalonia? Over my dead body. Spain is not Yugoslavia or Belgium. Even if the lion is sleeping, don't provoke the lion, because he will show the ferocity proven over centuries," he said. – UK Telegraph

Free-Market Analysis: Ambrose Evans-Pritchard (javascript:showWindow(500,800,'/floatWindow.cfm?id=2708');) reports on Spain and what he provides us with is a look at the underbelly of Spanish despair that you won't read about in other similar mainstream reporting.
What Evans-Pritchard provides us with, in fact, is the bloody sociopathic grin that lurks under the current, escalating social tension. The grin is that of one collectively plastered across the faces of the armed forces. It is the same in Britain and soon will be, no doubt, in France and Germany.
As the "planned" – there is no other word for it except perhaps "directed" – demolition of Europe continues to bulldoze its way across the south of this great continent, the lurking violence of the organized military reveals itself once more.
There is increased talk about the "honor" of armed forces in Western mainstream media (javascript:showWindow(500,800,'/floatWindow.cfm?id=1861');) and this is probably no accident. Here, from the Associated Press:
Prince Harry, third in line to the British throne, began a four-month combat tour Friday in Afghanistan as a gunner on an Apache attack helicopter ..."Prince Harry, like any soldier, considers it a great honor to represent his country in her majesty's armed forces wherever it chooses to deploy him," St James's Palace said in a statement.
You see? This is a deliberate statement. The Afghan war has been subject to contentious debate in Britain, with former Prime Minister Tony Blair (javascript:showWindow(500,800,'/floatWindow.cfm?id=2979');) coming under attack as a war criminal by some for his role in involving Britain in that quagmire in the first place. But there is no context here: Harry is merely honored.
We used to read a lot about the "sacred honor of the German Reich," etc. in the history books and would wonder how people could use such rhetoric. Now we know.
The world is being whipped up by the hard military men waiting in the proverbial wings. Soon they will surge to the fore and the reality of modern capitalism (javascript:showWindow(500,800,'/floatWindow.cfm?id=1903');) will be revealed for what it really is, a thin veneer. Here's some more from Evans-Pritchard's article:
Spain now has a Right-wing nationalist government with Opus Dei links, the Partido Popular ... The mood is becoming dangerous ... Former army chief Lt-Gen Pedro Pitarch said his views reflect "deeply-rooted thinking in large parts of the armed forces".
Gen Pitarch said Catalan independence is out of the question, though he also said Madrid had bungled the crisis of the regions disastrously. "Are we looking at a failed state?" he asked.
Now we have an explicit threat from the Asociación de Militares Españoles (AME), an organisation of retired army officers, warning that anybody promoting the break-up of Spain ("fractura de España") will face treason trials in military courts.
This from El Mundo: The attitude of the Catalan government and members of its parliament is inadmissible. The Armed Forces are guardians of the Spanish state and its territorial integrity under Article 8 of the Constitution.
They will carry out this role "scrupulously and strictly" to defend the sovereignty and Carta Magna of the Spanish nation. AME said any flicker of secession "must be suppressed". Violators must bear in mind that they "will have to respond with all rigour to the grave accusation of high treason under the jurisdiction of military tribunals".
Do they speak for the Armed Forces? One assumes not. One awaits a categorical denial from King Juan Carlos (javascript:showWindow(500,800,'/floatWindow.cfm?id=3563');), from premier Mariano Rajoy (javascript:showWindow(500,800,'/floatWindow.cfm?id=4309');), and from the cupula of the Armed Forces that such a course action is being considered.
The use of military courts to try civilians is forbidden in democracies (javascript:showWindow(500,800,'/floatWindow.cfm?id=1862');) (pace Guantanamo). The alleged conspirators in the assassination of Abraham Lincoln were tried and hanged by a US military court, setting off a long legal battle. In the end, the US Supreme Court ruled that such practice was unconstitutional. Never again must this happen, it ruled.
Be that as it may, what we have in Spain is a disturbing turn of events. It is not of course for a Pirata Ingles to suggest how a great nation like Spain should organise its affairs ... Events in Europe are now moving fast. Portugal has been in havoc for the last week. Spain is in ever greater havoc. Much of southern Europe has become unpredictable.
Is it the fault of the monetary union and the euro? Yes, of course it is. While large parts of the world are in deep economic crisis – including Britain – the damage is concentrated with lethal intensity in the EMU victim states. Spain's unemployment rates is already 25pc, and the full austerity has yet to bite.
It is made much worse by the unpleasant discovery that elected governments can do nothing to escape the trap. They have lost control over their own destinies.
Actually, governments never COULD do anything. Governments and their bought and paid for politicos work for a larger Money Power. It cannot be otherwise. At the heart or spine of all these countries is a force of professional mercenaries that are pledged like Intel agents to work for Money Power. They are extracurricular, like a shadow occupying force.
Once it is clear that the core actors of nation states take orders not from "the people" but from those more shadowy powers trying to build seeming world government, then reality comes into focus. Just today, we read this from the public intelligence analyst Debka:

DEBKAfile's Middle East sources report that Israeli and Saudi intelligence watchers are becoming increasingly concerned about the approaching climax of the conflict in Amman between Islamists and the throne.
We've been predicting for over a year now that the CIA (javascript:showWindow(500,800,'/floatWindow.cfm?id=2401');) controlled Muslim Brotherhood would be used as an agent of change in the Middle East but even we didn't realize how far-reaching the changes would be. Now Money Power attacks its own allies.
We've argued that secular governments were being undermined in the Middle East in order to create a religious (javascript:showWindow(500,800,'/floatWindow.cfm?id=854');) monolith in that region that would provoke at least a cold war between Christianity and Islam.
In Europe, austerity is being relentlessly pressed to provoke similar social tension. The idea is to create enough social and military chaos to create yet more pressure for globalist solutions. World government is always the shadowy goal, it seems.
The antidote to all this is what we call the Internet Reformation (javascript:showWindow(500,800,'/floatWindow.cfm?id=2195');) – the dawning enlightenment pro-offered by a technology not yet controlled by those who own the mainstream media.
The elites are pursuing directed history in the full gaze of electronic monitoring by thousands of engaged bloggers and "citizen journalists." This is a unique moment in history, not seen since the Gutenberg Press (javascript:showWindow(500,800,'/floatWindow.cfm?id=764');).
Conclusion: It is knowledge of one's manipulation that may yet prove a profound element in the struggle between the elites and everyone else. Certainly it will prove a defining contest in the 21st century

he is 30 and making his first steps as a documentary film maker... but in this tough environment I doubt he is going to get a foot in the door. He temps to make ends meet as shooting movies is his new passion. I nonetheless encourage him. he is aware of my take about this monetary mess but still regards me as an eccentric. sigh... :( I told him to save $$ for a flight ticket and live with me, but being a farm boy is too much for his head it seems and he wont leave his friends. I dont mind contributing to his air fare, but really he wants to stay in EU.

If such demonstrations happen in the USA I would imagine that there would be some armed people attending...
