I don't see the gold standard being reinstated as long as the current government and the fed exist. Their ultimate goal was met with the 100% adoption of fiat currency, they won't give that up as long as they stand.

The gold standard would just get in the way of the Fed and the current out-of-control Federal gov't spending unless they found a way to create physical gold out of thin air.
