Reason for religion, is the transient nature of spirituality.
While it can be said to be known what limits of ones spirituality are and a sense of security built around that, the spirit will break even those walls in this our real world. It must be anchored/drawn towards something sacred, a notion, a godman, a beacon, a search. Without the anchor of our individual religions we are doomed to drown in a sea of selves.
To believe (or religion) as the many do would be to drown in a sea of thems, though some sick individuals do dig an orgy of "Hedonistic spirituality".
