The illusion is set to lay a grand cosmic bitch-slap on the rubes who think they 'own'* that which is in their care, custody, and control and for which they 'paid' for with 'money' - http://www.marketwatch.com/story/your-right-to-resell-your-own-stuff-is-in-peril-2012-10-04

*the ruling from this case would only apply to that which is produced abroad and would exclude that which is produced domestically in the states - which isn't very much anymore

Perhaps I'm a bit obtuse, but the issue I see here is whether a copyright holder has a right to gouge buyers in the marketplace. Does owning a copyright give you the right to dictate the terms of sale of all copies? If that right exists, does the law protect it?

If the SCOTUS says yes to all three of these questions, it will be a hard blow to the idea of respecting our laws. Holders of copyrights will spend more time enforcing their legal rights. and less time creating anything that can be copyrighted. Creativity will suffer, lawyers and courts will prosper. Black markets will fluorish. The laws will become a joke because they will be unenforceable.

I'm not sure if the judges on the supreme court are able to see the effects of saying yes to these questions. Our laws have taken a turn toward protecting monopolists from competition and away from protecting the public from monopolists. The judges mostly have the attitude that the public are cattle, and that those who profit from the cattle have unlimited rights. Cattle don't own property. They don't even own their own bodies. One day, the SCOTUS will tell us it is legal for governments or corporation to give us forced medications like vaccines, or whatever the scam de jour is.

I'm not betting on any good outcome for ordinary people in this case.
