I bought a Ruger LCR, 38 sp revolver today. I've been wanting one of these for quite some time. The gun shop I was buying ammo at, had one, held it again. Love the grip, and the trigger pull seems excellent, so I pulled the plug and bought it.

Now the 10 day waiting period begins... :) I also had to take a 30 question handgun safety test. I scored 29/30. This test is a joke. It was all common sense, with maybe 2-3 questions to make you think. The question I missed, had to do with transferring ownership between family members. I thought 2 siblings, brother and sister can pass ownership without the transfer, but apparently only parents can pass ownership down to their children without the transfer.

Anyway, I'm excited. I've been wanting a pocket revolver to carry while flyfishing, and for self preservation while camping in remote areas. Plus, to shoot.

Now, I need to get a pocket holster and a couple of speed loaders for the gun.

If any of you gun experts have any recommendations, I'd really appreciate the advise and any tips.

Not a bad choice Slowbell. Get some quality +P JHP's for it, Hornady, Speer, Corbon, etc. all will give you a good, solid preforming self defense round. Practice, Practice, Practice. Revolvers are fantastic for dry fire practice. Get some snap caps (dummy rounds) and practice that speed loader till you've got it down pat.

As for holsters..... I happen to know a guy ;)

Would you be able to make a small pocket holster for this gun? I intend to keep it secure in my front pocket of mostly jeans. I usually wear jeans when flyfishing under the waders.

Also, thanks for the advise about the dummy rounds and the speed loaders. I'll be sure to do that. I'll also try several different types of jhp to find what works best for me. Then get competent with the gun and that ammo, then stockpile it. There's a learning curve I need to take time to overcome.

Normally I would suggest trying a few brands of good SD rounds in a gun for a function test. However, with your revolver, if you're sticking to the real quality stuff (like those listed in my other post) they will all give you about the same spectrum of performance. +P's will give you a little more snap/kick than range ammo, so its good to shoot what you carry as practice, but I think in this case you probably dont need to go through too many actual brands to find that "one". With semi-autos, it's a little different.

My stuff is almost exclusivley loaded with Hornady with Speer being my second choice. This is simply because Hornady was the ammo I went "all in" with when I loaded up on SD ammo, not necessarily because its massivley better than anything else. My .45 stock was all Corbon (just sold my all my .45 stuff) for similar reason.

The snap caps arent necessary for dry fire practice, you can fire on an empty, but they do help greatly with practicing reloads and malfunction/clearence drills so they are definitley a worth while investment. (they'll last pretty much forever in your revolver as well. Semi's beat them up a little bit).

Holster wise, I think this would be right up your alley: http://hhholsters.highwire.com/product/ambush.

Of course, theres a billion options out there and even one of those DeSantis or Uncle Mikes fabric holsters that cost about $6 would be....ok. :D

Sweet, you know I like the LCR
I still haven't fired one, but I was handing one a few weeks ago and still love the feel and trigger pull.
There are many holster options, many not so good.
If Mr. Heim doesn't have what you're looking for, maybe look at these couple options.

I grabbed one in .357 for a sister-in-law for a Christmas gift. She likes it very much.

I added a Crimson Trace for her as well.

This little revolver comes in .38 Spl and .357 Mag. The LCR acronym stands for 'Lightweight Compact Revolver'. It incorporates several novel features such as a polymer grip and trigger housing, monolithic receiver, and constant force trigger. The LCR operates in Double Action Only as the hammer is concealed within the frame of the gun and cannot be cocked prior to firing.

Everything I hear about these pocket Rugers make me want one of each.... I love my LCP and I always wanted a revolver. I have seen a mini 9mm from beretta (nano) and wanted to shoot that and the lc9 to see which I liked. I like the look of Ruger better...

I just bought the .357 ruger LCR and I like it. The .357s sting a little as expected but .38s were no problem. When I carry it will have .357s in it. Can anybody suggest a good IWB for carrying in the small of the back?
