A little before 7, we were working on a combine and heard sirens in the area. The fire/EMS pager hadn't gone off to call us out, so we figured it must be police. We kept working and when I got in at dark, found out that a bank robber had gotten into a shootout with the KHP a few miles down the road. He's on foot and at large now.

The news coverage shows cruisers, ambulances, planes and helicopters. But no APCs. I guess those aren't used for real criminals.

Update: Looks like they got him. Alive.

Good to hear. Since he was in a shootout, the guy was obviously armed and dangerous. Was going to recommend locking all doors and keeping a gun ready. Desperate folks do desperate things. Actually, are they certain there was only one robber? Maybe another one. God bless and be safe.

And lights out too.

He crashed while fleeing and shot at the trooper who was chasing him. Trooper had cuts from shattered windows and returned fire. There was a woman and children in the car with the guy. The woman was injured - don't know if it was from the crash or from the gunfight. No word on the children.

I must say that I'm surprised they got him alive and commend the restraint of these cops. If someone shot at me or my friend, and I had to hunt him down, I'm not sure he would be captured alive. Hell, even being in my house, knowing that he was armed and willing to shoot someone put my trigger finger on alert.

Local cops took down my jackass next door neighbor and his buddy last week. He drove up to the house (his buddy was driving) as my friend and I were standing on my driveway, with my other neighbor's kids playing across the street. A Toyota minivan pulled up across the street coming from the other direction and a new Ram truck pulled in behind their car. A uniformed cop jumped out of the minivan... as soon as my neighbor saw him he took off running into his open garage, and of course the cop went into foot pursuit. One of the undercover cops got out of the minivan and leveled an AR at the driver - which was a bit disconcerting as I realized I was 20 yards directly downrange... in fact I was hesitant to make any sudden moves as I thought he was sighting me down at first until I heard him tell the driver to "shut the fucking car off!"
