gotta love the idiots at walmart

i still will not believe this is true until my wife arrives home and i see it with my own eyes.

so, my wife calls me on her cellphone from walmart. she had to go there to pick up a charity donation check from them to our kids' school. while there, she was buying some stuff. she asks me if i want some of those mountain house food pouches that i am always buying because "they are 50% off." i have never seen mountain house bags 50% off, ever. simply doesn't happen.

so, i ask her if she's sure. she says "yes, the sporting goods lady said they were clearing them out because they're close to the expiration date, they're $2.50 and $3.50 a bag."

BWHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAAHH

i told her to buy all 17 of them.

As I recall, both MH and AA state that their single and double serving pouches are 'good' for 1 (or 2, don't recall exactly) years, certainly both manufacturers make a point of stating that their pouches don't have the many year shelf life of their #10 cans. So there may even be a 'best by' or 'expiration' date on those pouches.

looked on their site, says 7 years for the pouches. i had my wife check the manufacture date of one of the bags, april 3, 2012. score. how they could possibly think they were expired is beyond me.

Maybe they thought the manufacture date was the expiration date?

must have been that gonzo, the pouches don't have an expiration date on them, only a manufacture date like rambler noted. they must have thought they expired this april. i hope whoever is charge of the sporting goods department stays there. :D

Our walmart stopped carrying the MH food about a year ago and replaced them with the freeze dried "coleman" brand meals. They're like $4.50 a bag. I've got about 20 pouches. I should try eating them before I buy anymore....

I still ahve some of the MH ones I would pick up there stocked away somewhere too...

I'm betting walmart is replacing the MH with coleman brands at your walmart now too....

mh is pretty good. i eat them in canada on fishing trips a few times a year. little salty, but if i am starving to death i guess i won't care. will keep an eye out for the coleman stuff, didn't even know that existed. it's probably rebranded mh lol
