Looks like Saab and Studebaker got together and built a masterpiece. It was likely too high quality to be commercially viable.
But alas it was a fishy deal, killed to support the fish for cars policy of the government's deal with the communist eastern europeans. Did the Norwegians end up driving Ladas and Trabants?

I guess they did, but this was in the 50's, I don't have any recollection of Norwegians being drivers of Eastern block cars when I grew up in the 70's, but by then most of the Soviet cars of the 50's would be at the junkyard I guess. Amazing that the Norwegian government were conspirating against one of their own budding car companies in league with the Soviet car manufacturers. With industrial policies like that I think the Norwegians were very lucky to have the North Sea oil fields...
