And this is only one reason why - http://www.11alive.com/news/article/261774/40/Foreclosed-family-watches-helplessly-as-Craigs-List-crowds-strip-house-bare

This is a prime example why people selling stuff on CL have their potential buyers meet them in a public place.

On another note, I'm sure you've seen instances where some ahole seeking revenge on someone else has placed a similar ad on CL.

Narrator: "They took everything...but a few books." (describing the mob that ransacked the house)

If that doesn't distill down the typical American's priorites (i.e. junk trumps knowledge) to their bare essense I don't know what does.

You give your address and tell people to take anything and everything???!?!?!! And then wonder why it is all gone? Duhhhh.

Expensive education right there.

Yeah, pretty naive. Mention 'free' on CL and watch people go into a feeding frenzy.

Fairly large, free yard sale. Moving and we want everything to go for free. So come over and take whatever you want and how much you want. Here are a couple of items that will be there: Couch, chairs, lots of household and kitchen items, appliances, a wardrobe, desk, recliner, movies, lots of books, lamps, women's and teens' clothing, etc. And also a box of free food with lots of cans. Please take only if you need it. We're starting at 10 a.m., October 24th, and we'll finish when everything's gone."

I'm wondering how anyone could possibly have gotten the wrong impression.

Being that they're in foreclosure, it's safe to assume that they tend to make poor life choices.

Magnes, is your obsession with trolls becoming some kind or censorship or what? Anybody who is for whatever reason just too fearful, should NOT post on here.

and please spear me your diatribe as you already branded me as a troll a gazillion times.

There's something that triggers people when they hear 'free'. And I know to be very careful when posting something under the 'free' category.

The last thing I posted under the 'free' category was about 100# of scrap sheet metal in 10-12 ft. length. Here's how I listed it:

Free scrap sheet metal, about 100# in 10-12 ft. lengths, it's sitting on the sidewalk outside the fence at 123 Avenue B. If it's still on the sidewalk it's yours, if not someone else has already picked it up. DO NOT ENTER THE GATE! - DO NOT GO ONTO THE PROPERTY! STAY OUTSIDE THE FENCED AREA!*

*it was ALL fenced, right up to the sidewalk

Note that I was VERY EXPLICIT about staying the fuck off the property - as in just because I posted about some free stuff at the curb does NOT give you permission to go onto the property. I was shocked at the interest in $10-15 worth of scrap.

In this area there is interest in discarded soda cans. I don't know what the attraction is as these same people walk right by a perfectly edible Jerusalem artichoke plant valued commercially at $5 a lb.
