I got one of these 8mm Mouser rifle for $40, painted the stock antique green and sold it for $180.

Why in the world would you unload a 98 Mauser that you got at such a bargain price?? (if you only paid $40 for it then it was apparently at a time when 8mm milsurp was super cheap too, then you'd have a bad ass stash gun with a shitload of ammo for next to nothing)

I got it at a White's Auto Store back in the 70's, they had a shitload of them selling cheap, most were coated in that thick grease they use when they packed them away, brand new. White's also carried the green antiquing kit. Putting the two together was my idea. Gun shop I sold it to loved it. Rifles didn't come camouflaged back then. Who knows, I may have kicked off that trend, like I did with the Double Whopper with cheese....
That $40 was half a week's pay.
