View Full Version : Should there be 'open season' on drones flown over private property?

The question I have for everyone: Should private property owners or their agents be able to shoot down drones trespassing in the airspace over posted (NO TRESPASSING) private property? Or should anyone with a fucking drone be able to overfly everyone's private property with impunity?

waiting for Palani to suggest drones are legal in their 'planes'/airspace. However, it wasn't .gov drone, so don't know if the law has covered airspace rights per se.

(doesn't matter to chemtrailists either apparently)

The distinction is that the chemtrail planes are not directly disturbing the peace by invading one's privacy (spying on them).

One has a reasonable expectation not to be spied on as a right.

The first thing I would do is post my property, THEN place a public notice in a paper of record that my private property extends into the airspace directly above the land and that my NO TRESPASSING NOTICE extends into that airspace. THEN I would shoot down ANY drone that got directly over my property.

It'd be the very same thing if someone sent a ground based r/c robot onto my property - I'd consider that robot 'abandoned property' upon my own property and I would dispose of it as I saw fit (the protestations of anyone else notwithstanding).

How high up does private property extend to?

& then there's pesky satellites that do just that... able to read the newspaper you're holding!

Or how about the claims that the rain that falls from the sky onto your property/roof is not yours?

They lost another drone in February in South Carolina.

Animal rights group says drone shot down (http://thetandd.com/animal-rights-group-says-drone-shot-down/article_017a720a-56ce-11e1-afc4-001871e3ce6c.html)

Steve Hindi, president of SHARK (SHowing Animals Respect and Kindness), said his group was preparing to launch its Mikrokopter drone to video what he called a live pigeon shoot on Sunday when law enforcement officers and an attorney claiming to represent the privately-owned plantation near Ehrhardt tried to stop the aircraft from flying.

"It didn't work; what SHARK was doing was perfectly legal," Hindi said in a news release. "Once they knew nothing was going to stop us, the shooting stopped and the cars lined up to leave."

He said the animal rights group decided to send the drone up anyway.

"Seconds after it hit the air, numerous shots rang out," Hindi said in the release. "As an act of revenge for us shutting down the pigeon slaughter, they had shot down our copter."

He claimed the shooters were "in tree cover" and "fled the scene on small motorized vehicles."

Surveillance drones blasted out of the sky in protest against 4th amendment intrusion

Following columnist Charles Krauthammer’s observation (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=-IVQVTVMgWQ) that the first person to shoot down a surveillance drone on U.S. soil will be a “folk hero,” gun enthusiasts in Texas have done precisely that as a protest against the use of spy drones on the American people.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=nGgEFOD8Jlo

Using consumer drones as target practice, Alex Jones and the Steiner brothers tested out the best way to bring down the drones on the 10,000 acre Steiner ranch as part of filming for Brothers in Arms, a new show which focuses on firearms and the second amendment. With spy drones now commercially available for less than $1,000 dollars that are barely any different from the ones being used by police departments to spy on the public, Jones and the Steiners made short work of the devices during filming. This was an exercise in pushing the message that the use of surveillance drones in U.S. skies must be politically shot down because it represents a complete violation of the 4th amendment right to privacy.Congress recently passed legislation (http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2012/feb/7/coming-to-a-sky-near-you/print/) paving the way for what the FAA predicts will be somewhere in the region of 30,000 drones in operation in US skies by 2020.
Privacy advocates have warned (http://www.prisonplanet.com/rights-groups-petition-faa-on-use-of-drones-in-us-skies.html) that the FAA has not acted to establish any safeguards whatsoever, and that lawmakers are not holding the agency to account.

In addition, a recently uncovered Air Force document (http://www.infowars.com/air-force-document-drones-can-be-used-to-spy-on-americans/) circumvents laws and clears the way for the Pentagon to use drones to monitor the activities of Americans.

Incidents involving the drones in recent months have hardly provided positive spin for the industry, which is why Americans are set to witness a massive PR campaign (http://www.salon.com/2012/05/22/drones_new_weapon_p_r/singleton/) that will “bombard the American public with positive images and messages about drones in an effort to reverse the growing perception of the aircraft as a threat to privacy and safety.”Earlier this month, a mystery object, (http://www.prisonplanet.com/spy-drone-almost-causes-mid-air-collision-with-jet-over-denver.html) thought to be a military or law enforcement drone, flying in controlled airspace over Denver almost caused a catastrophic mid air crash with a commercial jet.Last summer, police in North Dakota used a Predator drone to spy on a family (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2073248/Local-cops-used-Predator-drone-arrest-North-Dakota-farm-family-stealing-6-cows.html) who refused to give back three cows and their calves that wandered onto their 3,000-acre farm.Watch out for the next episode in which you’ll see a full size drone blasted out of the sky. Watch the first installment of Brothers in Arms below.*********************

I think it is more than 10 acres, because it will expand radially as it extends outwards. A line from the center of your property ends up right above you, but at the edges, the line is at a slight angle (due to the earth's curvature), and thus will expand.

Based on a curvature of 8"/mile, I estimate you increase your land area about 5.7% per 100 miles of altitude. If the space station is at 230 mi., then you have approximately 11.3 acres in space! Now you have room for that extra shed (and we may start calling you "Two Sheds Chad"- I hope you are familiar with Monty Python).

With my Land Patent I can do it, from the four corners of my private property into outer space and to the center of the Earth is mine to do as I wished and protecting it is my ultimate goal.

So it's legal for them to secretly put gps trackers under your car, it's legal for them to secretly install cameras on your property, and it's legal for them to fly drones over your property?

Why the hell aren't we exercising these rights on supreme court justices? Why don't we have a live web page with the location of their car at all times? Why aren't there live cameras mounted across the street from their house that anyone can view? Where are the live feeds from the houses of senators and congressmen?
