A 28-year-old man from Maine allegedly burned two children with a lit cigarette in an attempt to teach them how to meditate.
Adam Maguire has been charged with two counts of domestic violence assault (http://bangordailynews.com/2012/11/29/news/aroostook/houlton-man-arrested-after-burning-two-children-with-lit-cigarette/?ref=latest) and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, according to the Bangor Daily News.
Houlton Police Chief Butch Asselin told the paper that Maguire burned the children, whose names and ages are being withheld, in the back and neck, "in an attempt to show them pain compliance while meditating.
Maguire was attempting to help the children deal with ADHD (http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Houlton-man-charged-with-burning-kids-4080157.php), according to the Associated Press. His girlfriend said that the children were told that when you clear your mind your pain diminishes.
The children are now in care of the relatives.

You know I go onto MSN or AOL and all I see is ugly ,hateful behavior, WHAT THE FVCK IS THE MATTER WITH PEOPLE ?
No wonder our kids are growing up to be serial killers, mean hateful, baby rape-ing, non feeling adults.

Imagine what out society will be in 30 years.

I don't go out looking for these articles, they are right there along with poor Lindsay Lohan.

I really don't understand.

I remember the older fellas trying this when I was wee lad.

Of course it was partly voluntary, I guess?

Well the peer pressure was enough for them...

i tried that once ,clearing the mind to diminish pain ,only thing that happened was this wave came along .....yes you guess it ....a wave of pain....ha

Seriously one way to alleviate pain is to apply your hand to and hold the affected area , which people do automatically ,but if you do it with intention it works better.

another reason to give up smoking

I got the same intense burning pain sensation in my brain as a kid every Sunday from listening to church sermons that would peel paint from a navy warship.

Well the peer pressure was enough for them... Same here!

It used to be a test of some sorts. That the fringe tough guy/gals did in school. I could never understand people doing something that would leave a scar. (round) The guys and some gals would do this to see who had the bigger balls.

The way it was done here was to put their arms together and drop a lit cigarette between them and who ever pulled away first, Lost the contest.

For an adult to do this to a kid, is sick! Maybe the adult needs a blow torch applied to his head!

There is a very good chance those burn scars will last for life.

Granted it sounds like something you would hear a 17yr. old doing to a 13yr. old.

I remember stuff like that happening constantly in my neighborhood.
