UN calls on Israel to open nuclear program for inspection, backs talks on nuke-free Mideast

UNITED NATIONS — The U.N. General Assembly has overwhelmingly approved a resolution calling on Israel to quickly open its nuclear program for inspection and backing a high-level conference to ban nuclear weapons from the Middle East which was just canceled.

All Arab nations and Iran planned to attend the conference in mid-December in Helsinki, Finland, but the U.S. announced on Nov. 23 that it wouldn’t take place, citing political turmoil in the region and Iran’s defiant stance on nonproliferation. Iran and some Arab nations countered that the real reason for the cancellation was Israel’s refusal to attend.

The resolution, approved Monday by a vote of 174-6 with 6 abstentions, calls on Israel to join the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty “without further delay” and open its nuclear facilities to inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency.

The UN regularly resolves that Israel should quit fucking around, and Israel has historically ignored such resolutions. However, when the UN resolves that the Palestinians should benefit it some way, Israel tends to throw a tantrum.

Israel dismisses U.N. nuke vote (http://www.upi.com/Top_News/World-News/2012/12/05/Israel-dismisses-UN-nuke-vote/UPI-49171354708050/)

JERUSALEM, Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Israel dismissed a U.N. General Assembly resolution requesting the Jewish state open its nuclear program for inspection, a foreign ministry spokesman said.

Israeli Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor said the resolution calling Israel to join the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and open its nuclear facilities for inspection is brought up by the General Assembly and passed each year, The Jerusalem Post reported Wednesday.

The General Assembly has lost its credibility and an automatic majority passes these votes that single out Israel, Palmor told the Post.

The non-binding resolution was passed Monday by a vote of 174-6 with six abstentions. Israel, the United States, Canada, Micronesia, the Marshall Islands and Palau voted against it.

Israel isn't a party to the NPT and has said it won't be the first country to introduce weapons into the Middle East.

Ok, let me get this strait:

1) Iran is said to be within x number of years of a nuclear weapon, they are not responding to sanctions, therefore they need to be invaded.

2) Israel is known to have a vast number of nuclear weapons, and have for many years, they are not responding to the UN, and the UN in this case is full of bigoted haters.

that sounds about right. let us not forget, a fairly large number of Americans don't even believe that Israel has nukes, let alone that they are capable of doing anything wrong.
