once at gim1, there was a thread on making your whiskey, and somebody had links to a professional still you could buy. anybody remember that, and if so, could you point me to it?

They're all over the net but you can make one yourself much, much cheaper.

the one thing that worries me is that i'l kill myself or make myself blind with methanol.

A very easy and effective one is found in the book "Possum Livin' " by Dolly Freed. I made one and it works like a charm. I have a book called "The Alaskan Bootleggers' Bible" which is very funny and informative and gives precise temps for discarding the 'heads' and 'tails' which are fusel oils and methanol. I don't believe your average mash will produce much of these undesirable constituents but if you want a very pure product then for a price you can get a high tech still which will do it for you. http://www.stilldrinkin.com/Clear_Column.htm

That is a shiney one guess it hasn't been used much, I had a pic of one my FIL made can't seem to find it though.
