The common denominating thought process (that leads to failure) is that anyone who doesn't agree with you completely, is ultimately out to get you.

When it gets to this stage, it appears to be a downward spiral until some balance, and level of reasoning sets in again. I believe this scenario can be applied to many of the popular movements throughout history.
