Summary of 2013 legislation
Following is a summary of the 2013 legislation:
Bans the sale, transfer, importation, or manufacturing of:
120 specifically-named firearms
Certain other semiautomatic rifles, handguns, shotguns that can accept a detachable magazine and have one military characteristic
Semiautomatic rifles and handguns with a fixed magazine that can accept more than 10 rounds
Strengthens the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and various state bans by:
Moving from a 2-characteristic test to a 1-characteristic test
Eliminating the easy-to-remove bayonet mounts and flash suppressors from the characteristics test
Banning firearms with “thumbhole stocks” and “bullet buttons” to address attempts to “work around” prior bans
Bans large-capacity ammunition feeding devices capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
Protects legitimate hunters and the rights of existing gun owners by:
Grandfathering weapons legally possessed on the date of enactment
Exempting over 900 specifically-named weapons used for hunting or sporting purposes and
Exempting antique, manually-operated, and permanently disabled weapons
Requires that grandfathered weapons be registered under the National Firearms Act, to include:
Background check of owner and any transferee;
Type and serial number of the firearm;
Positive identification, including photograph and fingerprint;
Certification from local law enforcement of identity and that possession would not violate State or local law; and
Dedicated funding for ATF to implement registration

You'd think these folks on the Anti-gun bandwagon would realize that something is inherently wrong with the proposal,
I mean, since when has congress ever acted on any other complaint so quickly?
Too big to fail bailouts - failure
Obamacare - on the road to failure

You think they give a shit? They have their own agenda, what's to learn?
The BIG complaint should be that none of those class rooms had locks that could be locked from the inside!!

I think the big complaint should be that the government made it ILLEGAL for these teachers to be able to protect themselves and their students from slaughter. By law, they were not allowed to defend themselves.
Also, has anyone ever heard of a semi-auto handgun with a fixed magazine? That's what this legislation will be banning, but I don't know what makes and models those would be.

Most teachers don't think about arming themselves, what for? It's not like they're going into battle!
One of the teachers there said that door locks would have saved lives.
So, a gun free zone such as the CO theatre and all schools is a prime target, which is why they are chosen as targets to begin with. The CO shooter had 9 theatres to pick from that were closer to his starting point but chose the one he did because it was a gun free zone.
I know I digressed a bit but still......door locks would have helped, if this was just a nut with guns.

Broomhandle Mausers, some of which were actually select-fire (however I'm thinking that this particular part of Fineswine's proposed ban is to pre-empt any 'work-arounds') -

You can even find some Broomhandle Mausers which were manufactured prior to 1899 which keeps them from being 'subject to commerce regulations' (although these days that could be debatable if there's commercially available ammo to be had for the pistol in question, e.g. a pre-1899 Colt SAA in .45 LC).

Is this going to fly? I think it's more extreme than everyone thought it would be. Perhaps the idea is to get 'concessions'.

That's absolutely it. Bloat it up with useless baggage and "concede" half the bill to leave untouched 100% of what they really want.

I think the last "Assault Weapons" Ban took a year to take effect after it was passed, and everyone just bought up 10 years worth of the banned guns in that year grace period. Please correct me if I'm wrong guys?

If it does pass, it would not take effect until August from what I gather - which leads me to think that Zero will do an EO of some sort.

I can guarantee you there is going to be a sh!t load of break ins where guns that would have been registered are stolen.
People are going to make it a habbit of leaving the back door unloacked and the Gun safe open daily

Bam! Instant criminalization of millions of Americans who will either refuse to register, or out of ignorance of the new law, not register their old rifles.
