I created this thread since we were discussing this issue in this thread:
http://gold-silver.us/forum/showthread.php?66108-check-out-the-ammo-prices&p=599829&viewfull=1#post599829

And I felt it better we start a new thread than hijack the thread.

Thanks Shami, but I really don't mind being rural. In fact, I'd like to be more rural than I am (and I'm pretty rural now).

I've always wanted to be somewhere in the WY/MT/ID area, but I have roots where I am. I'm the 5th generation to farm the same land and I have 2 sons that I hope will be the 6th. It's hard to leave a heritage like that, but if political events force it, I may have to look for a place with more freedom. I'm especially interested in the idea of a state standing up to overreaching federal laws. Taken one family at a time, they can easily defeat us, while painting each resister as a nut, but an entire state standing up to them would be a force (both military and public opinion) to be reckoned with.

In your search for a new location, have you been checking real estate prices? I'd be interested in knowing what a fairly large piece of Wyoming rangeland would be worth. I see a lot of adds trying to sell 40 acres for pretty high prices. I'm not interested in that. I'd be looking for 160-640+ acres and not in the tourist/celebrity areas.

Newcastle is the cheapest, that's why I focused there. I was offered a 1 bedroom apartment with everything included for $400 a month. I'd check out the FSW realty sub-forum:
http://www.fundamentalsoffreedom.com/fswforum/index.php?board=12.0
(Note: You need to register to see this sub-forum.) Forum member "Kelley" is a local realtor and can give you more information for bigger real estate. I'm just a small business owner who makes peanuts, and lives on a shoe string budget.

I thought that Oregon and Washington were included in 'the American Redoubt'.

I doubt that Oregon and Washington were included in 'the American Redoubt'.

The far Eastern parts are.

Huellett, north of New Castle. I still think you would be better off anywhere from Buffalo to the west. If tshtf NC will be very thirsty imho.

Did you ever figure out what locations have the internet access you need?

I assume all the major places like Casper, Laramie, and Cheyenne have decent Internet, but I didn't consider any of those places.

Gillette and Sheridan have okay DSL, but you pay through the nose. Sheridan does fluoridate though, so that sucks. The fastest available in Newcastle was 6 mbps. I dunno, I still wanna see other states too, I may revisit Wyoming in the future, I haven't ruled it out completely.

Yes Sheridan recently Flourinaded its water, but i live in rural from there and on a well. Newcastle is a dump with a state minimum work camp prison. a recent tech company(something to do with clouding?? not quite sure) but many things came into consideration for them to choose Sheridan, mostly they thought that geographiclly we are sheilded by the Bighorns and a stable place to heve this type of business. ( i heard an interview by one of the partners of this business when they announce they were in business)

Gillette has 10MBPS cable that isn't all that expensive. Still, I would go no farther east than buffalo if I wasn't tied to geology.

Well I did find out there was some at 30 mbps but it was super expensive.

I'd settle with 16 mbps minimum.

Property tax low to moderate. There is a state income tax though. Jobs are scarce yet crime is very low.

They also outlaw raw milk. It's even legal to have raw milk in California. WTF!?

Sales taxes are easier to get around than income taxes in my opinon, so I rather deal with no income tax. Income taxes are actually pretty low in California compared to other states if you don't make a lot.
