EXCELSIOR, Minn.(AP) — Some 1,000 people are expected to welcome the New Year with a chilly plunge into Lake Minnetonka.

The 23rd annual ALARC Ice Dive gets under way at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday at Bayview Event Center in Excelsior.

ALARC founder Bill Wenmark will do his 23rd dive to start the annual tradition.

An 86-year-old man from Mound is among those expected to take the plunge. A costume contest will be held for the top two costumes worn by divers as they jump into the lake.

The National Weather Service forecasts an air temperature of 5 degrees below zero — with a wind chill of 17 below — about the time the dive gets going Tuesday morning.

building a compost pile in the peanut garden ~

leaves

... not sure what layer goes next.

i'm curious if the straw will help it heat up more than just the 'manure + leaves' combination.

if i want it to be ready by March - i got to get it done soon.

i was planning to have all my compost piles done by December 31st - and i'm a little behind schedule :)

Add a bag of earthworm castings (worm shit) to those layers and some worms as well, it will more than make up for your being behind.

As far as today goes....did my rental property mowing. Now it's time for the annual ritual of putting ink to paper, making/revising the "to do" list and add a little introspection in the process, with a nearly new notebook :) It's a weird ritual and it doesn't serve much of anything but the process and the buzz is cool and I enjoy it, lmao.
