Gun show sales reach record amidst control debate
ORLANDO, Fla. - Nearly 8,000 people attended the first day of the Florida Gun Shows' exhibition this weekend in Orlando, according to event organizers.

Crowds broke records on Saturday, and organizers said it's possible they'll see even larger numbers of gun enthusiasts before the weekend ends.

"[Gun enthusiasts] are buying and they're buying as fast as they can get them," said Victor Bean, promoter for Florida Gun Shows. "We've had some exhibitors who had to cancel because they didn't have any inventory from their gun shops."

Organizers and gun owners said there's an overwhelming feeling that certain guns will not be available soon.

"They're afraid they'll lose their gun rights, their Second Amendment rights," said gun dealer Dan Derringer, of Lakeland. "They want to get a gun, and, hopefully they'll be grandfathered in. If [President Barack] Obama makes any changes, they'll be covered."

The rush to load up on guns and accessories comes just as the Obama administration is expected to unveil possible limitations, such as including a ban on assault rifles and high-capacity clips allowing dozens of bullets to be fired in seconds.

Nationally, the Federal Bureau of Investigations has capped off a record month of a record year of background checks on potential gun buyers. According to FBI statistics, gun dealers ordered almost 2.8 million background checks in December.

In some states, buyers at gun shows are exempt from laws that require background checks to purchase a gun if they buy from private citizens, but event organizers said at the Orlando gun show, checks are required.

Ontario Gun Show Draws Thousands Looking to Stock Up, Send a Message

It's the first gun show in California since a mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Connecticut killed 20 students and six educators.By Michelle Valles and Samantha Tata | Sunday, Jan 6, 2013

Some 6,000 people filled the Ontario Convention Center by Saturday afternoon, and more than double that figure is expected to attend the event, which is the first show of its kind in SoCal since the Sandy Hook Elementary massacre in Connecticut. The massive turnout is something even the Crossroads of the West Gun Show promoter didn t expect. Michelle Valles reports from Ontario for the NBC4 News at 8 p.m. on Jan. 5, 2013.

Gun Control
Advocates Protest Outside... More Photos and Videos With supply low and demand high, gun owners flocked to the Ontario Convention Center this weekend to stock up on ammunition at the state’s first gun show since a mass shooting at a Newtown, Conn., elementary school reignited the dormant gun control debate and increased sensitivity across the nation to firearms.

Some 6,000 people had filled the center by Saturday afternoon, and more than double that figure is expected to attend the event, which is open to the public and ends Sunday. The massive turnout is something even the Crossroads of the West Gun Show promoter didn’t expect.

"Nationally manufacturers can't keep up demand for firearms or ammunition," said Bob Templeton, with Crossroads of the West Gun Shows. "There's no ammunition at stores, I'm understanding, anyway."

Hundreds of gun enthusiasts wrapped around the convention center to enter the gun show and inside the packed convention center, 720 tables display firearms, not including assault weapons similar to those used in the Newtown, Conn., massacre.

The ammunition tables became so congested on Saturday that promoters had to reroute the crowd.

Gregg Imus waited in line for two and a half hours to buy ammo, the hottest commodity at the show. He speculated that’s due to rumblings in Washington, D.C.

"It's politicians scaring people into thinking they are going to take away our rifles, our ammunition so the people are just nervous that this ammunition we’re burying won't be available in near future and it’s our right," Imus said.

California Senator Dianne Feinstein said legislation would be introduced this session to limit sale, transfer and possession of assault weapons. That had the gun show crowd fired up.

"Some politicians are using these tragic acts to generate enthusiasm for restrictive gun measures," Templeton said.

Attendees cite gun laws in California, among the strictest in the nation, and Saturday’s overwhelming response as a message that owners are not backing down from their right to responsibly bear arms.

"We have that right to do that I'm excited to see thousands and thousands here," Imus said.

Guns Flying Off The Shelves Amid Debate On Restrictions, Sellers Say
January 4, 2013 6:03 PM http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2013/01/04/gun-store-owners-inventory-flying-off-the-shelves-amid-legislative-debate/

Guns are selling briskly at a Chicago-area gun store. (CBS)

(CBS) — Guns and ammunition are disappearing off store shelves in the Chicago area.

Is it fueled by gun-ban fears, or something else? CBS 2’s Courtney reports.

Several gun store owners say they started noticing a surge in sales after mass shootings like the ones in Aurora, Colo. and Newtown, Conn.

To add fuel to the fire, customers really began flocking to their stores when politicians started talking about making changes to gun laws.

Empty cases, bare shelves, and a phone that’s been ringing off the hook – that’s what things have been like for Don Mastrianni inside his Elmwood Park gun store.

“You can’t get them in here fast enough. As a matter of fact, for a while, I was selling things before I actually got them,” Mastrianni, owner of Illinois Gun Works, says.

He tells CBS 2 the state’s proposed assault rifle ban and President Obama’s vow to address gun laws has sent him customers by the dozen. They’re buying whatever they can get their hands on, he says.

“A lot of the politicians really are the gun industry’s best salesman, because anytime they threaten to make some kind of regulation, everybody runs out,” Mastrianni says.

Bernadette Terry, co-owner of North American Firearms in Lombard, is noticing the same thing. She says even ammunition is now hard to come by.

“Anything that has high-capacity availability: gone. People are grabbing it because they don’t’ think they’ll be able to get it anymore,” Terry says.

State Sen. Dan Kotowski, D-Park Ridge, says he believes gun sellers are using such rhetoric as a marketing ploy to help boost sales. He is sponsoring the bill to ban assault rifles in Illinois.

Gun store owners tell CBS 2 they’re having a hard time replenishing their supply because most nationwide distributors are also out of stock.

OUTRAGE! BofA Freezes Licensed Gun Manufacturer’s Deposits “We Believe You Should Not Be Selling Guns On The Internet”
Update: ASA’s Owner Confirms
On January 4, 2013, in news, politics, by Velvet Hammer
** I have contacted American Spirit Arms requesting verification, as soon as I hear back from them I will update. **
Edit: I have received an email reply from ASA owner Joe Sirochman. See update below.

On December 29, the owner of American Spirit Arms; Joe Sirochman relayed this chilling news via Facebook:

All,
My name is Joe Sirochman owner of American Spirit Arms and I wanted to share my recent experience with Bank of America .(which we have been doing business with for over 10 years)…. Everyone is familiar with the latest increase in guns sales , dealers selling out of inventory , Manufacturers back logged for months , large revenue all generated in the last two weeks …. American Spirit Arms is no exception to the overwhelming demand . What we have experienced is that our web site orders have jumped 500 % causing our web site E commerce processing larger Deposits to BANK OF AMERICA ..Well, this through up a huge RED Flag with Bank of America . So they decided to hold the deposits for further review , meaning that the orders/payments that were coming in through the web ,( being paid by the customer and that were shipped out by American Spirit Arms ),the BANK was keeping (UNDER REVIEW )..as you could imagine this made me furious…

After countless hours on the phone with BANK OF AMERICA I finally got a Manager in the right department that told me the reason that the deposits were on hold for FURTHER REVIEW …

HER EXACT WORDS WERE …
..” WE BELIEVE YOU SHOULD NOT BE SELLING GUNS and PARTS ON THE INTERNET “

…I flipped the F**k Out and told them that they have no right to make up their own new rules and regs..that we are a firearms Manufacturer with all the proper licensing FFL (Federal Firearm license ), SOT and that we follow all Federal and All
States’ rules and regulations on shipping Firearms and parts ..and that we are also Audited by ATF and Homeland
Security on a regular basis … She said that she understands that but that the deposits will be released After they have a
Chance to review and clear them …I told her that This was unacceptable and the those deposits (that were a week old by now ) needed to be released ASAP, that we are a small business and rely on the revenue to run and stay operational.
After that being said another Manager got involved and released one of the deposits (to help out )… So far to date after
Two weeks of sales only 1/3 of collected internet sales have been released ..I am still pissed and looking for another
Bank and options …
I just thought the public should know ..

I will keep everyone posted on new developments ..

Sincerely

Joseph P Sirochman

Gun show sees record turnout; vendors running out of merchandise
By Sandra YiJanuary 5th, 2013 @ 10:27pm

SANDY — After several weeks of intense debate about gun control, the Rocky Mountain Gun Show saw a record turnout.

About 20,000 attended the opening day of the weekend-long Rocky Mountain Gun Show Saturday. Typically, this gun show draws about 17,000 people throughout the entire weekend.

People wanted to get their hands on guns, high-powered rifles and ammunition. Long lines and shoulder-to-shoulder crowds waited to get inside the Southtowne Expo Center.

Matt Webster came to get parts and ammunition for his AR-15, only to find, he was out of luck.

"We got here, maybe around noon and they were sold out of the .223, which is the main round for the AR-15 and they were just out. We asked if they had any .223 and the guy just laughed at us," Webster said.

Matthew Gomez got his hands on ammunition, but for a price.

"What I'm about to buy now, get some ammunition, normally would have cost me $250 six months ago, now it's probably going to cost me about $400 or $500 now," Gomez said.

The fear of a heavy tax on ammunition is driving sales. The possibility of stricter gun laws in the wake of several mass shootings is also behind the spike in business.

Gun vendors like Dan Petersen are having a hard time keeping inventory.

"It doesn't matter what we sell in here, we cannot get it. Doesn't matter if it's a holster, ammo, guns, we cannot call our wholesaler and get it," Petersen said. "It's virtually impossible."

He says this is typical after a shooting incident or when new legislation is being considered.

"It's not going to slow down at all it will not until we see exactly what they're going to do," Petersen said.

On the other side of the country, gun shows have been cancelled in areas close to Newtown Conn., where a gunman entered an elementary school and shot 26 people dead, including 20 children in December. The reason for the shows' cancellation has been attributed to a heightened sensitivity and appropriateness.

Promoters say they're expecting another large turnout tomorrow morning when the gun show opens again at 9 a.m.

Gun Background Check Wait Times Remain Long In Colorado
January 5, 2013 2:03 PM

DENVER (CBS4) – The prospect of tighter gun laws has gun sales soaring and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation remains flooded with requests for background checks on buyers.

On a normal day a background check would take about 15 minutes, but the CBI is so backed up it’s been taking as much as eight days.

CBI spokesperson Susan Medina says their processors have been overwhelmed.

“When you look at a traditional day, a week, a month, a year; they come in in the morning, they work all day, and they go home at night, and the queue is at zero,” Medina said.

But as of Thursday afternoon they had 11,400 waiting to be processed. They’ve extended hours, brought in extra resources, but can’t keep up with the demand. It’s created a long wait time for gun buyers.

“So what we’re looking at is a time period that used to be minutes, has extended to days, and we’re just at about eight days right now,” Medina said.

Medina says the task is daunting, but with extra resources and resilience, things will get back to normal.

“Customer service is a top priority. They want those queue times to be just minutes instead of stretching into days,” she said. “So our ultimate goal, we’re going to get back there, it is going to take us a bit of time.”

How much time? That’s anyone’s guess. Colorado isn’t alone, however. Many parts of the country are seeing the same thing happening with background checks. The CBI is asking people for patience as they catch up.

what states are those ?

Anywhere, pretty much.

For example, if you're in Kentucky and you have a bunch of leaves in your yard and want to rake them up, but you don't have a rake, and you happen to see that I am selling a rake, you could talk with me about it, work out a deal, and buy my rake.

It works the same way with shotguns and rifles.

It is no "loophole" .... it is your right to privately contract with other private people.

(in this case, the contract being a simple sale/purchase of an item)

it look like people are voting with there money right now , if you thought they were coming for your guns why buy them

So they can have something to hand over!

PANIC: One Million AR-15 Magazines On Backorder
By Gregory Gwyn-Williams, Jr.
January 9, 2013

According to the gun review site, "Haus of Guns," backorders for the Magpul AR-15 30-round magazine ("PMAG") have surpassed one million.

In a Facebook post dated today, January 9, Haus of Guns writes the following:

"Had breakfast with a buddy who has reasonably close ties to the Magpul family. Word is the great PMAG panic backorder of 2012/13 has topped 1 million at Magpul HQ."

Magpul is a designer and manufacturer of firearms accessories. The PMAG is one of their most popular products. It is a 30-round magazine designed for the AR-15 semi-automatic rifle.

Sales of firearms, ammunition and firearms accessories have surged in recent weeks over fears that the Obama administration will soon implement stricter gun laws.

Dianne Fenstien (D-Calif.) plans on introducing legislation that would ban military-style weapons and high-capacity magazines.

Because the PMAG holds 30 rounds, it would fall under the definition of "high-capacity" in the Feinstein bill.

But, before any such legislation occurs, gun enthusiasts are scouring the nation to get their hands on what could be some of the last manufactured PMAGs.

You will be able to just as much damage with 3 10 round mags tapped together as you would with one 30.

And you better believe somebody is going to make a kaballion dollars selling mag extention kits .

Of course it wont be labeled as such but it will do EXACTLY that
