Yes, I can see this happening. Obambe is on his last term, so he has nothing to lose. He can sign an executive order and the deed will be done, then until the next election cycle (4 years) providing that the republicans can get their act together by then and get someone in the w/h and cancel out the executive order.
Or the when the law is challenged (sure bet) it would have to be dragged up to the supreme court to be vetted or not as constitutional. It will put an immediate halt to what ever that executive order wants to halt.
It will not be any skin off obammer ass, seeing he will not hold office anymore anyway.
Sucks!
And also he will have the cover of all of the dumb ass's that are "CLAMORING" for him to do something, he will be a "hero" for doing it.
Double dam sucks!

You know what i have a idea how this is gonna play out.
There will be GrAndfathering of all firearms bought right now at least at the Federal level because to otherwise The US will be fighting a force of my 3-6 million people that have no intention of disarming and once the round up occurs any information of that is going viral and you will insurrection all over America and that type of war can not be effectively fought by the state.
This might happen in Several ultra liberal states. ......but i see that being the straw that causing a huge exodus of people to states with favorable firearm laws. Think GGG Gualts Gultch for Guns
Magazine of high capacity are toast but they will be grand fathered. you can be just as deadly with 3 10 rd mmags as you are with a 30
Online ammo purchases are going to dry up because of complience with new regs but i still see it being reasonable at physical stores
I dont think serial numbers on mags are going to pass but several states might squeeze this One through

Such an EO will create a new class of millions of felons along with as many or more snitches.
Don't delude yourself that this will take 'years' to play out, more like weeks to play out.

But grandfathering is almost a given for the reasons you stated. Same with magazines and also I just can not see people going to allow to have their mags stamped with serial numbers, hell none of mine have numbers on them.
But I totally think/agree that bulk ammo buys probably be a thing of the past on or off line with out paper work.

Which is why i think there will be grandfathering
The numbers at gun shows are off the chart.
You want to see pure insanity?
Let bummer boy pass a EO they there will be no more possible or myth
We will have fact that the gun grab is indeed happening.
It will be people not buying for protection.
It will be Partriots arming themselves for War

Sounds like it's really time to stock up on ammo.
Right now, ammo is still relatively cheap and easy to get. The most restrictions will come on ammo, because it won't be as fiercely resisted.
Even if some weapons or magazines are banned, there are still so many out there that you can always buy one privately if needed. All you really need is one or two.
On the other hand, you may be able to get a handful of ammo, but once it's shut off, it will be very very difficult.

the grandfathering will only be done for those who own them now. there will be no option to ever transfer them to someone else. if you don't have one soon, you're never going to have one. there will be no leaving them to your kids, selling private party, etc. when you die, it will be turn them in status, or they'll do some "death tax" thing where you have to pay $10,000 to leave it to an heir, etc. the whole populace will then be disarmed within a generation. the nra retard crowd will eat it up because they got "grandfathered" in. fema camps camps for thier kids, though.

I aint turning in shit
And before The Lord takes me away from this place. I will have it set up so my kids will have my Firearms
They may not ever enjoy hunting or trap shooting.
But they will have the means of effective ressistence against criminals and tyrannical overlords

This would only apply to the Darwin Award candidates since the sane, peace-loving folks won't be 'registering' their pieces (in order to KEEP THE PEACE).
