First of all these are simple to do and you dont need to know many in the beginning.

Whether they work,do anything ect ect isnt that important because they at least give your hands an interesting work out or exercise.

When coming across this subject for the first time it maybe mind boggling what with all the different mudras.

Basically the first one to start ,

warming up the hands ,
then holding the hands apart with palms facing each other.
After a few moments you may feel a warmth or an energy or you may not. This mudra is a short cut as it helps people feel that there is an energy there and when going on to do other mudras it is easier to do and understand them.

The well known index finger to thumb is well known and indeed can be used before and after practicing a mudra as it appears to aid in concentration.

Can touch any finger to thumb and they say certain times to hold a mudra but half a minute or longer is best .They can be held for what ever time you like really.

Without energizing our hands it is difficult sometimes to "feel" mudras as the hands appear to go to sleep when we do other things.Rubbing the hands together gives a feeling of energizing as its this energy that is used doing mudras.

A simple one to energize is to hold the index and middle fingers straight out and thumb over two small fingers which are curled in.

this is a very good book on the subject and kept very simple and recommend for anyone really

this book narrows it all down and is all you need on the subject .................

when they say mudras are a spiritual practice it means they use mudras in these things and it has covered up there true benefits , the ones most interesting are the basic healing mudras which have no connection to any ism.

now I have a name for it. I use this for my aches and pains. If I feel an ache or a pain, say in a muscle or something like that. I use my right hand. I rest my palm on the area, close my eyes and I breath in deeply. I then visualise as I breath out that I am pushing something like liquid down through my shoulders and arm, out through my palm and into the affected area. I can feel a slight warmth in the area as I do this. I do this several times making sure to breath in and out deeply and slowly.

Sometimes I need to shift my hand from say the front of my abdomen or chest to the side or back (as best I can) so as to get the palm of my hand closer to the location of pain.

This works very well for most pains. This is an element of messmerism which is employed in theraputic massage although most practitioners don't know it's messmerism.

I have tried doing this with both hands, however, while I feel a slight warmth from my right hand, I feel slight chill from my left hand. I also don't get the same result suggesting the effects are different for each hand.

now I have a name for it.
Some people would call it energy healing (chi, reiki, etc).
