As you all know the only place the I keep heated in my home is my living room and bath room......this summer I am getting ready for what is to come by cutting off 30% more from the living room and all from the bathroom, keeping my temperature at 58-64 degrees and if things get worse it will go down to 54-58 degrees..........of course this will also means that I'll be sleeping on the couch........will have a mini electric heather in the bathroom for when I am there...... I have double glass on my windows but I can also use some plastic bubble wrapping material to create another line of defence..................will take out the the center living room coffee table and there I can erect one of my small tents that my lap top and my security monitor will keep warm inside.
I do have many different ways to keep warm and if I am writting this is only because I am writting as I am thinking and this maybe will also give you guys ideas as to get ready........of course being single and living alone does help a lot.
I have a regular 8 feet ceiling that I can lower two feet with some plastic, as I have done in my log cabin and it works.
Around 32 degrees for the past week and the water pipes are still frozen....I do have the jacuzzy water for the toilet and dishes and my two water tanks outside from where I bring in five gallons of water a day for drinking and cooking.....I have a feeling that the trees are going to break and bring down the power lines so that I know have all my lamps ready to go.
And of course I still have my three cords of wood (or more) that are around 10 years old...they are probably sawdust by now LOL.......... have plenty of candles and of those small heating cans that I can also use in the tent, as long as I have some kind of air circulation..........cat sleeps with me and dog has his own heating pad....... anyway, add anything that cmes to mind.

What am I missing here? Why would you want to live in a cold house?
Do you know frozen pipes turn into broken pipes? Don't you have a wood stove or fireplace?? What good is rotten old wood?
Ideas for the coming mini ice age? Plan on ways to heat your house, not adjust to living in the cold. Think about putting up a greenhouse to extend the growing season. Get another dog and sleep with one on each side of you in bed! (or get a woman to share your bed) :)
What you're describing for surviving the cold is what I would consider for a camping trip, not for staying home.
Brrrrr. I can't think when I'm cold.

Serpo? I'll give a tip for free.......those pot holders from the $ store make wonderfull mittes.....if they won't let the heat go in it then means that it won't let the heat go out, simply put on a wool sock on each hand before puttin on the pot holders, the are the warmest gloves that I have ever used.
BushLady, I do have a wonderfull German stove in my living room a "Schrader" but that's only for when I run out of heating oil and there is no more. I spend most of my time (in winter) in the living room with my lap top so that the rest of the house does not matter.......... you can live nice and comfy for two years and then die of cold or you can use less and live for eight to ten years in relative comfort.........when I wrote what I wrote was counting only with what I have at hand with no chance of getting any more..........I like to plan now so that I wont be sorry later.

"Many Latin women prefer older mature men who may be double their age or more."
"Age difference is not an issue with these Latin women."
"Colombian women conventionally prefer to marry older men."
"Hispanic women want an older man; they feel older men are more stable and less likely to cheat."
"Colombian women are not overly concerned about your physical appearance, age or social status."
"Latin women honor your maturity."
"Colombian women prefer older men because it is something they are attracted to."
"Most Latin ladies are actually looking for an older gentleman."
"In most cases, your age or looks aren´t primary concerns to South American women."
"In Latin America, husbands are generally at least ten years older than their wives."
"Colombian women prefer older men because they highly value maturity."
"Your looks, age and race aren´t important to Hispanic women."
This is not true. Your age and looks will be the first two things they evaluate. The younger you look, the better looking you are and the more qualities you have, the younger you can go. What is true is that you can generally knock about ten years off the minimum age you could attract from your home country.
If you are 40 years old and able to date local women as young as 32, then you should have no problem finding an even better looking 22-year-old Latin bride. Yes, the degree of beauty will also substantially improve. A beautiful young American woman would not notice my existence, while my beautiful young Colombian wife finds me quite exceptional, yet I´m a typical guy.
An average man with average qualities will have no problem attracting a very good-looking Latin wife. Believe me, the difficulty will not be finding one beautiful Latin woman but trying to select from the multitudes of Latin women who will express an interest in you.

Very, very true......my dad's second wife was 22 and him 47...he had four more kids with her....horny bastard. She is the one that I said that is one year older than me and that I used to play house with her when I was 12.
My sister and this girl were interns in the same girls school and my dad used to go every week end to take them to the muvies and so on.......well, bullcrap..... what my dad was doing was dating the girl..........my dad had more girl friends per square miles than anyone that I have known ahahahahahahaha.

Ponce? I agree! "I like to plan now so that I wont be sorry later."
2011 wood pile before it was split; I guess living very near to a nat'l forest does help! ;D

Same here........is not the National Forest but I was invited to take some wood when needed......... I have a "Toyo" stove that I just love.......12 years with no problem......clean the fuel filter every 2 years and that's it.......this summer I am transfering all that I have ontop of my wood stove, just in case next winter the power goes out for more than 12 hours, the power from my solar pannels is only for my laptop, my security cameras and monitor and 2 bulbs....... but of course I still hve 8 generators that I don't want to use, together with 120 gallons of gas.........be ready, not sorry.

You're an old man hoarding shit for the end of the world and live like a begger. What the hell are you saving all the shit for? Christ, stay warm, burn some wood/fuel/whatever. You'll be dead in a few years. Use up your hoard...

One day I had to go to the bank to cash in a big check, and as usual, in my car I just put it on the passanger seat....down the road a patrol car stop me, the cop came over and asked me for my paper work...when he came back to my little old 22 years old pick up the first thing that he asked me was ........"With all that money nex to you, how come you are driving such an old car?" an my answer was "That's why I drive an old car"........he had to think about it for a few seconds to realise that I had the cash because I didn't have any car payments........he smiled and let me go with a warning..... so skid? how much payment do you have per month? how far are you in the hole? do you have all the survival thingis that you need to last for at least ten years?..........I'd rather live at 75% for ten years than at 150% for two years.
I could sell my silver and gold and buy a bigger house or a bigger car, take trips all over the world and so on.....but at my age I am happy as I am and many people around the world spend hundred of dollars to visit my town and to enjoy the maountai fresh air.......but for a young girld to live with me I am in Valhalla.
First post of the day........good freaking frozen day to one and all.
